The city provided free bus shuttle to the city from the port, the problem I think they sit people by alphabetic order (LOL) it took us 2 hours to get out of the ship .... we visited the "tourist trap" Guinness brewery, a word of advise RESERVED YOUR ENTRANCE TICKET IN ADVANCE. It is interesting if you want to know how its made (3 ingredients) and you get a coupon changeable for a pint of Guinness at the end of the tour. Be aware its a very popular attraction. On the way back to the bus stop many monuments to see .... Read Less

Due to lack of buses ordered, unabke to get off ship for 90 minutes, made day short and unable to see as much as planned, too late to see Trinity College Library or Book of Keills. Guiness Brewary too commercialised

We walked into town (quite far) and did a walking tour then went to Guiness. Prebuy your tickets for there if you are going during a busy time.

My hubby and I booked 2 tours in Dublin: 1) Guiness brewery, 2) Jameson Whiskey. Guiness was interesting but basically was a self guided tour by reading wall plaques as you made your way through the factory. Jameson was very interesting with a live person giving the history of the company and process. We also booked the special tasting for after the tour. A complete lesson in whiskey tasting. Would definitely go to Jameson again. IMPORTANT Book your tours online before arriving or you will wait a long time. Also book the shuttle from port to downtown. Read Less

Very much enjoyed dublin. Again, we explored on our own. Figured out real quick that the "hop on hop off" buses should be called the "hop on if there's space, and if there isn't, heaven knows how long you will have to wait for the next one, which might also be full" bus. I guess that's too long to paint on the side of the bus, though. Read Less

We purchased the Dublin Pass on line before we left which included the HOHO and entries with jump the queue in most attractions. Excellent value.

We had 2 days in Dublin. First day was a standard "Irish Countryside & Glendalough" excursion through the cruise ship. It was a very pleasant drive and interesting old 1000 year old site. Our second day we walked into Dublin. We did a student led tour of Trinity College which included a ticket to enter the library and the book of Kells. Then we continued our walk to visit Dublin Castle and a walk past St. Patrick Cathedral. Returning to the ship, we walked past the Irish Famine memorial and other related museums and items. It was a great day, but we were tired by the end, having walked about 7 miles or so. You might take a shuttle in if you are not up to a lot of walking. Trinity College is fairly close to the shuttle if I remember from the map, and the major sites are near that, so you can save a couple of miles walking and still see everything, or walk less and see less. Dublin is a big city with so many things to do. I enjoyed buying the hop on/off passes for a day and getting a full tour around the city for a relatively inexpensive price. Went and did the Guinness brewery tour which is impressive, and you can save almost 50% if you book online. Went to a local brewery "JW Sweetman" and had the best beer I've ever had in Europe, highly recommended. Booked dinner at "Celtic Nights" which reminded me of a Hawaii luau I once went to: packed full of culture, but not a local in-sight except for those performing. That being said, it was entertaining, and irish folk songs and step dancing is enjoyable (food was nothing to write home about, but that's not why you're there). WE do regret not being able to go to "An Evening of Food, Folklore, and Fairies" It sounded amazing, but it was booked up well in advance. Another tip is to try and order taxis ahead of time when getting off the ship: the taxi line can be long and slow to move. Jail Tour is dark and depressing but worth it to truly learn Irish history. Trinity Library is a quick tour, but gorgeous. Gin Palace is a fun place to stop for a drink and a bite if you like Gin, and their food is surprisingly good. Read Less
