History tour - great- would have like to have signed up for the longer 8 hour tour; we heard they saw more wildlife. ATV ride- great and scenic. Talkeetna river float - calm and peaceful would have liked it to be longer.

Booked thru NCL ... the 4 day trip was totally amazing! The weather was hot but we didn't care ... we learned more about Alaska than we ever could have learned... the tour director, Alex was amazing. Alex was with us for 4 days & so was the bus driver Alicia ... both were absolutely perfect... explaining everything we-could expect, what to do, where to be when & how long things would take! Even if you've been to Alaska ... go back and visit DENALI NATIONAL PARK! It's an amazing place to visit ... and yes, we saw wildlife! Read Less

The park itself is great - 5 stars. You will likely see wildlife and you might see Denali. (Only about 30% of visitors see it; the other 70% see clouds covering it.) You have to tour on a school-type bus because the park road is limited in size and in number of vehicles per day, in order to preserve it. The bus was crowded with not a lot of leg room and it was hard to take pictures through the school-bus windows, but what are you going to do? This tour was provided by the cruise line as part of our Denali package, called the "Wilderness Wildlife Tour" (Holland America). Departures are VERY early - ours was at 6:00 a.m. but some were even in the 5:00 hour. I couldn't find a way to review this separately, so will include it here. The Gold Nugget Saloon show at the McKinley Chalet Resort is not so good. The cruise line pushed it, even promoting it on the train as "you have to eat anyway." Yeah, well, you can do better for dinner. There was soggy salad, salmon that smelled funny, barbecue that was cold, mashed potatoes that were fine, and an unmemorable vegetable, maybe green beans. The entertainers themselves were talented. The show's content, which purported to tell the story of Denali (which is why we booked it) was okay, but told with a kind of goofy storyline that included a flashback in time. Overall, it was not worth the money, and I don't recommend it. Read Less

The McKinley Chalet Resort was charming, loved the woodsy cabin look. The restaurants were good. The rooms were spacious and clean. The only downside is it was quite warm and there was no air conditioning. The fan they provided brought little relief. I would recommend they add wall unit air conditioners for such times. It was extremely uncomfortable. The Denali Land Tour was fabulous with breath taking scenery and abundant wild life. I highly recommend it. The modified school buses were not as bad as I had envisioned. There were enough rest stops as there are no rest rooms on the bus. Read Less

After the wonderful cruise, we took a all day bus tour to Denali National Park and spent 3 days there. We had an amazing time and it was nice to know that when the cruise was over that our vacation was not.

The trip into Denali was a fun filled day! We did not get to see a bear but several busses did. We saw many Moose, Carabou, and Mountain Sheep. The driver kept saying just around this curve we might be able to see Mt. Denali. As happens most of the time it was cloud covered. We stopped at the last rest area and turned around to head back. We had gone a short way when she said she would pull over to allow us to take pictures as the clouds had lifted off Mt. Denali. We were aproximately 45 miles away but it was still majestic and dwarfed the mountains in the foreground! The other highlight was listening to her stories about life in Alaska. She and her husband have lived there 27 years. Read Less
