The ship docked in a nice area in Koblenz. The coach ride to Cochem was about an hour each way but the scenery was very nice. The guide took us through the town pointing out the local sights. The town is hilly with lots of steps and half timbered buildings. We visited the interior of St. Martin Church. We were there on a Sunday but many of the shops were open. The Christmas market itself seems to mainly offer food. Read Less

Despite the late date, the town was crowded. Nonetheless, the visit to the mustard factory and museum was very interesting and we are still enjoying the mustards we took home.

Favorite port day of the Paris to Swiss Alps route. Kudos to Klaus; our guide and "keeper of the castle keys". Great tour of Reichsburg Castle, followed by walking tour of the town. Very brief free time (30 mins maximum), then transferred by bus to wine museum for 3-4 tastings. The Riesling was the most requested at dinner that night! I wished there had been just a bit more free time here. Charming town Read Less

Our excursion included transportation up and down the hill where the castle was located. For me that was Cochem's main attraction and a good one to visit. We got early admittance. Enjoyed seeing how this castle on the hills of Moselle looked inside. The other attraction is to take the cable car ride up another hill - good views over the river, but nothing else to do up there if not hiking. Shopping is not good as the town caters to locals with many second hand shops/antique shops that don't look inviting. Read Less

Cochem's Reichsburg Castle was stunningly beautiful! And if you like Riesling, their wine festival in late August was the best! This was our favorite port on our cruise.

We took a bus to the Geirlay Suspension Bridge, which is a 1km long pedestrian bridge over a gorge. A long walk to and from, so a good exercise/hiking day. Back in Cochem is the beautiful Reichsburg Castle overlooking the village and river. It is well worth seeing. There was a Medieval Faire going on that day despite the 100 degree F heat, wand that was really cool. The quick tour through the interior of the castle was very interesting and the vie from the top was phenomenal. Read Less

Loved Cochem, Germany. Such a quaint village on the Mosel River. The castle tour was fantastic, then free time in the square.

We did Taste the Soil Excursion. This was fantastic! We were right up next to the vineyards with acres of grapevines and were able to watch works picking the grapes. We seen hugh barrels of grapes ready for harvest.
