Catalina is a cute island. Ship had to anchor out and tender passengers back and forth. Weather was nice, got some great pictures and did not know the Cubs used to play spring ball on Catalina. ...

Very cute! Rent a golf cart and give yourself a tour of the island. Only costs $40 an hour and you can see much more than on a tour through the cruise ship ...

We actually docked in La Romana, Dominican Republic, but took the Catalina Island beach break excursion. The boat ride over was a bit rough (bad enough on the way back that people were sick). We took the whale-watching excursion. No whales, but enough sea lions and dolphins to make up for a whale or two! Very cute little town, though -- I would enjoy vacationing there for a few days. ...

Avalon is the port. You get off the boat using tenders (small boats that ferry you to shore). This is neat! The town caters to tourists- golf carts everywhere! Rent a golf cart if you don't like hills - there are a lot of hills. All excursions are available on shore easily - don't book through the cruise line, you don't need to. Submarine excursion is neat, as is the Canyon tour. ...

Catalina was our first port. I really enjoyed Catalina, but others did not. I think Catalina is great if you like nature or exploring a small town. Catalina is not so great if you like to drink and party. To each his own I suppose. The ship tenders in Catalina and you have to wait about a half hour in line to tender to shore (if you go during the post-breakfast rush). I would recommend waiting ...
