Cartagena is a great port, even if the ship does not dock within walking distance of the old city. A shuttle was provided. The Old City is wonderful but is visited on foot. Architecture is outstanding, and it felt very safe at all times. Some interesting shops: Buy a hat. The shops selling emeralds were a bit disappointing though.

Booked tour through Royal Caribbean: Mangroves Eco Canoe Journey
The canoes were really cool. About 4 to 6 passengers can fit in each, plus the driver. He stands in the back and puts a stick into the shallow water to push the canoe along. There are tunnels through the mangroves. We didn't see very much in the way of wildlife, but the surroundings were interesting.
