It felt like a cross between Cozumel and Miami Beach. You can find high end places and some poverty. But we had a good time. It was super hot or we would have tried more places. The cab to Old Town $20 + tip was very easy. The mini zoo right there at the port was cute. ...
Cartagena, Columbia -We did the Princess tour Aromas of Colombia. This tour was fantastic. We sailed from the port to the Old city while tasting coffee and enjoying local fruit, coconut lemon and a delicious ceviche. We did a nice walk of the old city and enjoyed some free time. The Old City would be nicer if the street vendors would leave you in peace. We enjoyed a few snacks, and empanadas ...
We did the Walled City/Harbor Tour and I'm glad we did it in that order because the boat and fresh air compensated for the heat and sweat of the walk. Honestly, the vendors are in your face through the whole tour shoving hats, cigars, beads, etc. making for a very unpleasant tour. We were forced to stop in a park and watch the street dancers and then they passed the hat. I walked away to a ...
Overcrowded tours everywhere we went. Our tour guide would start explaining and then the following group would come so close behind it was if our guide just didn’t finish the explanation. The jade jewellery stop was ridiculous. It is the tiniest store with virtually overcrowded tourists piling in. The free coffee was one ounce ; why even bother. The native dancing was with a group that didn’t look ...
Even if you just go to the duty free area at the end of the pier do NOT miss this. It is a park and animal reserve, beautiful and clean. Parrots, Toucans, monkeys, turtles and other animals you can see close up. ...
We barely had 5 hours in port, so there wasn't much time for anything. We were nervous to do our own thing in Columbia, so we took a walking tour excursion through the cruise company.
They took us by bus to Getsemani where we walked around and the tour guide narrated. We had a lemonade drink on the deck of a hotel where we could also use the bathroom. (We were there way too long). We stopped ...
Interesting walking tour of the old town, and a dazzling folkloric dance show. The guide did a good job of working out an alternate plan when we got hit by a tropical monsoon deluge of rain. Then we had to visit an Emerald Museum (really a pathetic little diorama display followed by 40 minutes in a jewellery store). We were trapped inside by the weather, but most of us were ready to leave after 15 ...
The excursion we took on Cartagena was very disappointing from the beginning. The cruise ship crew did a poor job planning the disembarkation for the excursion. It was mass confusion. Our guide took was to places where we were bombarded with street vendors that were very aggressive. It was clear we were being hearded around to be squeezed for every dollar they could get out of us. It isn't an ...
