288 Cartagena (Colombia) Cruise Reviews

Some of our group have used these people for tours before, so we where not worried about not using a tour on board. We had our own van for the 8 of us. Loved the city, so much history and a colourful past and present.

Went into Old Town! Absolutely fabulous! Walked on the Wall and loved the history. The old residents have been lovingly restored. On the frontage at least.

We booked a tour right at the pier for considerably less then the cruise-line charges. Saw the Old City and a few other sights in what is a major city. Note: The cruise pier is about a 2 mile ride to the Old City and is really not walkable. Taxis are available though. Best part is the aviary (free!) at the cruise terminal. Read Less

We took our own tour with the Hop On-Hop Off bus company. For $20.00, it included a bus loop of the city and a walking tour of old Cartagena with a wonderful tour guide, Herman. His part of the tour, replete with so many insights, was certainly the highlight of our day. We were treated to free samples of local bread, chocolate, and beer as we explored the beautiful colonial streets. Read Less

Amazing place. Firstly, the port is my favourite - macaws, anteaters, taucons, flamingoes. It’s lovely! Do not be put off by the abundance of taxi drivers as you leave the port - all are trying to sell you a tour, if you don’t want it then keep saying no - they were persistent with us! We did our own thing and got a taxi to san Felipe, brilliant views here and cool tunnels to explore. Another taxi into the main town to the clock tower where we entered the walled city - something around every corner, it really is a beautiful place. Plazas, statues, cathedrals, super pretty houses and streets with lush flowers. It was great. We just wondered around checking out whatever took our fancy. Read Less

Just outside the port is a FREE bird and wildlife sanctuary that is well worth the short walk to visit. After visiting, we negotiated a taxi for two hours to take four folks around to all the sights for $15/ea.

We walked around inside the old city on our own. There were 4 of us and while walking the wall of the old town we were approached by a seemingly nice chatty young fellow who provided us with history etc of the area. Once he seemed to gain our interest and confidence he tried to persuade us to go with him to an area down under the wall - for something of great interest and would only take a minute. NOT! As we come from a policing background we declined his offer. He then tried to sell us handmade jewelry and when we declined again his pleasant presentation was no longer so pleasant. So Be Careful here! However, we found a jewel of a restaurant which I would recommend - the name is Collage Charladero, sorry no address but only a few blocks inside the main gates to the old twon. The small restaurant is quaint, very friendly even though the staff speak little English we were able to communicate ok. A great local experience. Read Less

The cruise was very nice. The tour guide was great and took us to a cultural show, which was great and other points of interest in Cartagena.
