We took the funicular up to Capri town (beware, there may be a line - and you have to buy your tickets behind the line before entering). We then walked down to the other side of the island to relax at Da Luigi ai Fariglioni for swimming in the Mediterranean and enjoying the craggy views. Beware that there is a charge for sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as towels. Also, if you wish to dine at the restaurant, there is a cover charge. Food was great, but many bees. Finally, the shuttle to Marina Piccolo (NOT the cruise marina) doesn't leave until 3:30. If you have a short day, talk to the lifeguard and he can book you a private water taxi for about 20 EU per person, which can be a beautiful way back to the port. Read Less

When the ship docks in Naples, passengers have a choice of seeing the Amalfi Coast or the island of Capri. Since we had driven the Amalfi Coast, we chose Capri. It is an easy port to visit on your own. The walk from the ship to the ferry stop is quite long, but there is a shuttle. The ferry is approximately 45 minutes and docks in the Marina Grande. From this busy port, you can easily book a boat tour around the island, which offers stunning views of the coastline and a close-up look at the magnificent yachts anchored all around the island. There are stops at the Green Grotto, the White Grotto, and the famous Blue Grotto. At the Blue Grotto, passengers hop into a small rowboat, lie flat, and slip through a small opening into a cavern of beautiful turquoise water. As we marveled at the beauty of the cavern, one of the rowers was singing an aria that echoed magnificently off the stone walls. After our cruise, we boarded the Funicular up to Capri Town. Wonderful views and interesting people-watching. Very upscale shops, no cars, lots of sidewalk cafes. If time allows, you can also visit Anacapri and the Marina Piccola. Read Less

We did our own trip to Capri instead of heading along the Amalfi coast & Pompeii which we have done before After docking at 7 a.m we ran to purchase jet boat tickets for the first trip of the day The jet boat ticket office is just a five minute walk from where the ship docked. A one-way ticket was 17 Euros and a 45 minute jet boat ride. Once we arrived at the dock we took the funicular up to Capri town followed by a local bus up to Anacapri. In Anacapri we took the chairlift to the top of the Mount Solaro. The views were amazing but it was an experience get the courage to get on the chair lift but it was definitely worth the effort . I recommend getting there early in the morning before it gets busy. After coming back down we walked around Anacapri & took a taxi back to Capri. Before relaxing with a well earned drink at a fantastic bar. A fantastic but very busy day. Read Less

Mid afternoon, the boat sailed for Capri, where we just wandered the town for a few hours. It was too late in the day to be able to do the Blue Grotto, an unfortunate fact. Many passengers suggested that a better option would be to have eliminated Ponza from the schedule and allowed a day at Capri so that the grotto might be included. Capri is beautiful, but expensive and full of tourists. Be sure to take the funicular (tram) up to the top to enjoy the breathtaking views. Read Less

In Naples, we took the Capri excursion which was really nice and quite an experience. We had to sample some of the Limoncello (not Lemoncello) there. Capri is probably one of the prettiest cities to visit on our cruise. The motor-ride to the top of Anacapri was like an amusement park ride, up and up and up the side of a mountain with two lane traffic on a one lane road. Then in Mykonos, Greece, we decided to do a self tour. Right next to the ship, local buses took the ship passengers from port into town. It was nice just to stroll though the city, go in and out of the shops and try some ouzo. We had a nice gyro lunch before taking a bus back to the Ruby Princess. Mykonos is a pretty island and town with all of its homes and building painted white. Read Less
