Not enough time left as only those who paid the extortionate cost were taken off ship early enough. Tenders were too big. Did not allow for handicapped people.

Once again, organised our own trip to Kuranda on the sky rail. very hot again, but a nice trip over the rain forest in a gondola. Town is a bit "hippy" but quirky and lots of interesting markets. Train trip back down is very slow, and hot in the vintage carriages. I would take the gongola both ways. Read Less

We embarked and disembarked at Cairns. We did not have any excursions at ports as the cruise was designed to stop at different parts of the Great Barrier Reef and a few islands/cays for snorkelling and scuba diving. We stopped at Cooktown and had an opportunity to look over this town with its history of where Captain Cook landed when he first discovered Australia. Read Less

Hard to rate this. A midday arrival then tendering problems meant we didn't get on land until after 3pm and were back on board by 6.30. So no time to see or do much. I feel for the international passengers who missed trips to the reef

Cairns: Because we sailed into the Cyclone, Captain Rob had to slow down the speed, which got us into Cairns a little late. We communicated with Reef Magic, our independently booked tour of the Great Barrier Reef, but they were told by the ship’s agent we’d be two to three hours late and clearly would miss our tour. So they said they’d refund us our money because they wanted to sell out seats. Even if they hadn’t sold our seat, they were very understanding about the cyclone and our delay, and I’m sure would have refunded our money regardless. We arrived at the Fleet Terminal at 9:30 (1/2 hour after our tour left). We tried booking with other tours leaving later, but due to Chinese New Years, there were 30,000 (this is not a typo) Chinese tourist there and they had literally taken over all excursions and such. We even were willing to pay for the helicopter tours and could not get on them either. BTW, it is blazing hot in this part of the world in February. We could barely breathe walking around.Cairns Day two we booked Kuranda Cable car up and back. We visited the Wildlife area and had our photo with the Koala. Again, we booked this privately and saved a ton of money. We were told we would not have time to do both the Wildlife and the Army Duck. But we could have easily, again, trying the book the army duck the day of, we could not due to the Chinese having it booked solid the entire day. Those that took the ship’s tour train up, were extremely disappointed. They complained the train was like a sauna, and had little time to do anything in the village and were bused down. Read Less

It docks off shore from Yorkeys Knob, 20km north of Cairns and the timing makes it completely impossible to plan your own shore excursion, so you should take this into account if taking this cruise as it will probably cost you another $100 pp extra to book the Great Barrier Reef tour ($250 each) through the cruise compared to if you went to one of the many local operators direct. A good option is to pre book a rental car through Gem Rent A Car who are based in Yorkeys Knob and will collect and drop you off at the wharf. Read Less
