The Egil was a very nice ship and the staff was top notch. Embarkationand disembarkation were smooth, and the pre-add-on was especially good. The food was excellent. We chose this cruise as it traveled through Eastern Europe to countries which we haven't visited before. Found the layout of the ship. especially the lounge with bar in the center rather than at the end not very satisfactory as not everyone could see the entertainment. We did our first river cruise in August on the Viking Egil. We had a pleasant time but not an exceptional time. Wee were very frustrated by three things: 1) we had received a $200 referral credit from some friends who had used Viking but the credit never showed up in our account despite a call to Viking in June confirming the amount and our our August cruise. This was our first (and last?) river cruise. While it was nice seeing all the cities along the way and only having to unpack once, the time spent on the ship was quite boring. This was our first Tauck cruise. The staff, food, and service were outstanding. Unfortunately, the cabins were not. We were later told that other ships Tauck uses from the Scylla Line had been updated to enlarge the cabins.
