We caught the shuttle bus into Blankenberge, walked to the marina, then out along the pier and back along the sea front to the top of the main shopping street. Very easy to get to Bruge from the port. Take the free bus from the ship to the port entrance, leave the port area and turn right and walk down to the "Kerk" (church) tram stop, take the tram going in the same direction you were walking to the Blankenberg Train Station stop, get off the train, go inside to buy round-trip ticket, and take the 12-15 minute ride to Bruge. Be sure to take the canal boat trip to see the sights. Sample some of the local beer and don't miss the chocolate. Read Less

You don't have to take a ships excursion, there is a transfer bus just outside the dock area, which you can book on line before you leave. Bruges is a lovely place, well worth a visit.

If in Brugge, you'll dock at Zeebrugge, which is Brugge's sea port. Zeebrugge is a dull and boring place, it you're going to Brugge on your own, you might have a free shuttle to Blankenberge. From there you can take a train that takes you to Brugge within a few minutes. If there's no shuttle, then take the tram at "Kerk" (church) to Blankenberge and then the train. Total travel time only 30 minutes. It's woth it. Brugge is a fantastic city. But - unfortunately, this time the weather was terrible, it was raining cats and dogs all day, and there was a stron wind, with gusts. We looked at these brave fellow travellers trying to hold umbrellas, which wasn't possible, everybody got soaked. We decided to stay on board. Since we live in Germany, all Benelux countries are just "our neighbours"... Read Less

Another great walking city - we booked the "express bus" instead of taking the ship shuttles (half the cost!) They both let passengers off outside the city which was a 40 minute drive from the port of Zeebrugge. It's about a 20 minute leisurely walk into the city center if you can get by all the chocolate shops without stopping! Waffles and Chocolate and Lace - take time to climb the Belfort Tower for fantastic views of the area! Read Less

We got there early, when the town had not yet been overrun by tourists. By noon, the town was packed, and it had lost much of its earlier charm. The canal ride (we were the first boat off that day) was excellent.

We chose to take the shuttle to the tram, then to the train. Although it was only 9 Euros per person verses the available shuttle to Bruges for 20 Euros per person, we should have taken the shuttle. It was significant time to move from the different transportation options and the walk from the train station to the center of town was long. Bruges is a beautiful city that requires only a comfortable stroll along the cobblestone streets. Enjoy the chocolate and beer! Read Less
