Always a night port of call but as we'd done it many times we stayed on the ship and enjoyed some of the facilities she has to offer. Had a lovely day!

We made our own way to Bruges by using the shuttle bus from the ship to the local train station (about 15 minutes journey) The train was an excellent price of 5 euros per person return and took about 10 minutes. The main problem was that the train was only once an hour (54 minutes past if I remember) and the same for the way back at 52 minutes past. So if you are going to do this just make sure you go early enough. The centre of Bruges is about 10 minutes walk or so from the railway station. Lovely city well worth a look around. Read Less

Whatever you do, do not take the self guided ship excursion into Bruges. They were asking for €37 per person, and yet they lay on a free bus from the ship to Blankenburg station in the next town, where you catch the train for €5 return into Bruges (15 minutes). No need to pre book as they are hourly and specifically large for the cruise passengers descending all at once. The city is more cultured than Amsterdam, and thrives on chocolate and beer. Save your money and bounce around from shop to shop tasting the free samples of chocolate, and spend the money on beer ! Would recommend going to the Bruges museum in the acentral square, but straight to Duvelorum bar on the second floor where there is a balcony with views, and try the flights of beer with accompanying chocolates paired for their different tastes €10. You can take a 5 minute walk to a light rail system and get to Blankenberge in 10 minutes. That city has a cute downtown, but it has an amazing beachfront area with cabanas, restaurants, etc. We should have just stayed there. We took the once an hour train from Blankenberge to Bruges and ended up with only 2 hours to explore that beautiful city. Leave the ship early to catch that train and spend 4 or 5 hours in Bruges. Amazing chocolate stores and tons of restaurants. Read Less

It was a rainy day and we didn't get off the ship. We were tired and it was a hassel and expensive to get to the trainstation to ride an hour into Brussels.

We stayed in Zeebrugge port and went to the Chocolate factory and a local bar. Clean and tidy and nice little harbor. Not much there but don't want to spend extra money to visit Bruges. Transfer is 20 euros each.

We used the 20 Euro (each) shuttle from the port into Bruges. A 5 minute walk into the southern end of town was a nice way to enter and see a bit of this pretty city. It's a characterful place and plenty of independent shops to see as well as canal boat trips (reasonably priced) and horse-drawn carts if that's your thing. Plenty of beer and chocolates. Read Less
