Good Dining/Service on an Old, Dated Ship
"We booked this cruise on the Veendam since we wanted to see Canada/New England and these cruise dates worked best with our schedule and vacation time off. My overall cruise experience was low because of the ship's..."Read More

1. Before we booked the cruise I specifically asked the NCL sales person what would happen if the price decreased after we booked. I was advised we would be offered a portion of the difference as onboard credit. A couple of months after we paid, the booking price decreased by $400.00 for a two week period beginning a month before the sail date. When we inquired about the decrease, we were instead ...

This was our second cruise with Holland America. The first was June of this year on the Niew Amsterdam. It was superb, so we decided to stay with Holland America and book another for October. For both cruises we decided on the Neptune Suite, thinking that Holland America would have the same quality on all their ships. Big mistake! Because we were flying 3000 miles to begin our cruise, we ...

Embarking Boarding was smooth, efficient and pleasant experience. I boarded at noon and was sent with my carry on luggage to the Windjammer for lunch. At one I went to my room to drop off my luggage. First impressions..T The first room(3645) was a good size with two comfy chairs to read in. Alas the room had not been thoroughly cleaned, as there was "solid matter" in the toilet from ...

The whole point of this trip was to see Canadian ports. Norwegian massively let us down. Although there was only supposed to be one tender port, without explanation, there ended up being three, two of which the captain claimed the weather was too rough to visit. It didn't seem that windy or wavy to the passengers, and everyone on board was bummed out and bored. Other cruise ships were docked at ...

Holland America has some great ships and cruises. Unfortunately the Veendam cruise from Boston to Montreal is NOT one of them. The ship is scheduled to be decommissioned soon so it is in its lasts throws as a working Holland America cruise ship. Problems began on embarkation. Our fellow travelers were assigned to a Veranda deck state room next to ours and upon arrival found industrial strength air ...

The timing of the cruise fit within our schedule so NCL was chosen. This was our 2nd cruise, 1st with NCL and probably the last with NCL. One reason we won't go NCL again - is it's too old of a clientele. The comedian has it correct. It's a floating nursing home. At 50, we were the youngest on the boat ! Expect most to turn in at 10 pm or earlier. You'll also be stuck behind many walkers in ...

Took cruise because of ease of access from Boston. Overall a very sad ship. Food was lackluster at best. ( except Cagney’s ). Everything is dated and worn. Young crew very helpful but leadership invisible. Worth driving to NYC to get a different ship Buffet was undersized but food was fair to good. Dining rooms were dark and food very salty. Cafeteria quality food Pools are not sufficient ...

I choose this cruise because it was offered during summer and the port was convenient to where I lived. I was able to park around a block from the cruise ship which added to the convenience of embarkation and disembarkation. The ship was adequate but the seating in lounges and the dining rooms was not very comfortable. The cabin I was in, room 5610, was the worst room I have ever had. It ...

I recently cruised on The Norwegian Gem form Boston to Bermuda. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The ship is old and in dire need of renovation. The restaurants and the food is ok however if you are looking for luxury try another ship! The entertainment was mediocre ,the cabin service was good but not stellar and the speciality dining experiences although good were costly ...

Background: I "won" a "free cruise" after gambling at a casino near my hometown. I was hesitant at the idea that it was "free", but after researching the offer, I decided to take a gamble (pun intended) on this "free cruise" to see how free it really was. It was basically me paying the taxes and port charges only, with an option to bid to upgrade from inner to ocean view and/or balcony. I had ...
