Great scenery but beware of the Hurtigruten money pump!

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Nordnorge

This is a unique cruise, if must be said; its strengths lie in the scenery, the food and the ability of the small ships to get into small harbours. But beware: the value for money is NOT good. I know this is Norway, but drinks are exploitatively expensive and the trips ... eeesh. These latter are, frankly, a mickey-take. Here are some tips: On any city trip which involves a play, recital ...

A lesson in history and geography

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Viking Sky

We have Norwegian ancestors, so sailing around Norway was something we had always wanted to do. The scenery was stunning, the service excellent. The shore excursions were good, but perhaps not as good as those we experienced on Viking River cruises. The speakers on board were excellent - all the way from the Viking history to British royalty. This is an area that Viking has really excelled ...

I had been on the Viking Star and enjoyed the itinerary, ship, food and excursions. So I decided to go on another. I also wanted to see more of Norway. The food was excellent. The dining room food and service was very good. The two specialty restaurants were very good also. The lectures were informative. The entertainment was very good. Unfortunately, one of the entertainers had an accident and ...

Viking Homelands

The Viking Homelands cruise gave us a great opportunity to visit multiple countries in a relatively short period of time. For us, this was perfect. The itinerary was wonderful. Each port held its own special quality, and begged for a longer visit. However, knowing that it would be unlikely we'd ever spend a week in Gdansk, or Helsinki, or Tallinn, we were satisfied to have an opportunity to go ...

Midnight Sun Cruise from Bodø to Kirkenes

We did a three night cruise from Bodø to Kirkenes - wanted to experience the Midnight Sun Hurtigruten is operating 11 ships along the Norwegian west coast from Bergen to Kirkenes. Hurtigruten ships function as working ships and are calling 35 ports around the clock during the voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes. Many of the 35 ports of call are not more than tranquil hamlets at tiny islands ...

We chose this cruise because we had enjoyed one of Viking River Cruises. Embarkation went very smoothly. The ship is beautifully appointed, the crew were friendly and helpful, always ready to do anything to make our cruise a good one, the food was very good and there are so many places to eat. There were guest lecturers who were fantastic!! Our cabin was a bit tight, but then who spends much time ...

Into the Midnight Sun

Had a phenomenal cruise in 2016 - Viking Homelands. Try to match that experience. All went went this year, but the destinations just can't compare. A few too many sea days on this cruise, three were planned which is borderline too many on a short cruise / smaller ship. Having a 4th unplanned one was just too much. Tromso as a destination was way over-rated. The included tour included such ...

Surprisingly very enjoyable and Quality experience

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Nordnorge

We were not sure what to expect. This is a "ferry line" with people, goods and vehicles loading and unloading in every port. Frequent enjoyable stops. Smaller than Cruise ships (only 7 decks) and not as luxurious, but very clean with pleasant environment and excellent service-oriented English Speaking & accommodating staff. Scenery was incomparable! "Ceremonies" on deck were well done, ...

So many beautiful spots to put up your feet and relax

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Viking Sea

I chose this cruise for the itinerary, the appeal of the beautiful ship and because we enjoyed our Viking river cruise so much last year. Embarkation was not a good experience. Scanner would not allow my husband to pass as he removed more and more items. Turned out, he had a packet of hand sanitizer in his pocket (restaurant variety). Annoying start when you are tired. The ship is the ...
