A great mix of fishing port, modern shops and a beautiful lake surrounded by art galleries. A great spot for a picnic if the weather is nice.

Bergen, which dates back to 1070, the weather was light rain. We were docked very close to the city centre, about a ten minute walk maximum. We went up the funicular for wonderful views over the port, which was not marked on the Royal Caribbean map provided? We went to the fish market and had lunch in Fish Me, fresh to say the least. Walking around the town could take hours or minutes, depending on what you were looking for. Read Less

This is where the fish market and Bryggen street shopping are located. We used the HOP ON/HOP OFF bus to get around. The ship docks within a 15 minute walk to Bryggen street.

Been here three times now. Long queues for the funicular railway, and we didn't feel like walking up this time, but we have done so before, took about an hour at a relaxed pace. Easy well marked footpath through the woods. This time we walked around the town, lots of weddings as it was a Saturday, and interesting to see so many guests in Norwegian national dress. Visited the military museum in the old castle area. Surprisingly interesting, as well as free, and had clean toilets. Read Less

As time is limited here due to an early departure in the afternoon it is best to get out early. Make your first destination, if not on a tour, the funicular railway. It cost 180kr to ride up and back, and if you are not there early the queue becomes massive. The views from the top are well worth seeing. A visit to the fish market is a must and walking the town is the best way, To see it all will require another visit at sometime. A lovely place. Read Less

Again, we took the HOHO bus. It was a rainy day but we had a ball. Lunch at the fish market and when the weather cleared we walked back to the ship through Bryggn and the old Rosencrantz Castle area.

It poured rain most of the day we had in Bergen so we did not take the funicular to the park at the top of the hill as we did on a previous trip. We spent the time looking at the shops and returned to the ship to take 'grandparent" duty so our daughter and son-in-law could go to town. They had a great time shopping and found lots of things to buy. Read Less
