Our xcursuoj was cancelled and n this port as a storm was due to hit the uk and we had to leave Bergen early. We had a wander but although a busy port, not much to do with limited time.

We bought tickets for the funicular railway in advance and if you plan to do this, dont plan to buy them on the day or you will spend ages in a queue. We bought tickets online that are valid all day, and headed there quite early and beat all queues, being waved on instantly. The railway is about 15 mins walk from where we docked. It is only a short ride (about 6 mins) to the top and there are toilets and cafe, and then lots of walking options. We took a walk of less than 10 mins to a lake which we couldn't walk round due to building work but admired from the side open to us. There are paths that take you back down to the town but we were lazy and took the train back. We then headed off exploring the town itself. We had a Rick Steve guide with us but it is very walkable and easy to just wander round on your own. There are lovely old parts, especially at the Bryggen where many old wooden buildings now form a craft centre. There are some impressive monuments further into town away from the harbour. Again we resisted the eating/drinking locally but if we had wanted to there are plenty of options. Everything is compact so doesn't take too much time, and we also included a visit to the fortress overlooking the town, though we didn't pay to go up the tower which was covered in scaffolding. We had to be back on the ship by 2.30 but the ease of getting round this charming town meant we didn't feel rushed. A lovely place, thoroughly enjoyed it Read Less

Our favorite city in Norway. Easy to navigate but wish we'd had more time there.

The only issue here is the time spent in port as it was well too short for a stay as I wished it would have given a longer time as we were note able to walked and enjoy the town as we had hope for. This place had a lot of shops and Food hall as well the market which we could have tried some local cooking but due to the time - we could not. The trip to the top of the mountain via a cable train was great as we saw the cloud (we were above it) coveringt he city but the fog clear and we saw the area. The hike down from the mountain was agood hike as we pass forest and house along the way back to the ship. Read Less

Don't book a ship tour. If you want to go to Mr. Floyen, you can book a ticket in advance and save a lot of money (https://www.floyen.no/en).

We only disembarked at the port, so didn't do any waiting there. Therefore unable to comment on facilities, but it was easy to leave after being allowed to disembark.

We were very disappointed as the time was very short and could not do any meaningful excursions. The city does not provided any free toilets in the very crowded Bryggen area. Even with 10 krona's, the toilets are poorly maintained..

Bergen - nothing to do except little old district and tourist fish market, If weather permits, take funicular uphill (buy tickets through internet to avoid cue) and hike up there - they have beautiful nature trails there.
