Bergen is a true city with lots of character and would be best enjoyed over a few days. The Bryggen area is quite interesting and worth a visit when not overrun with tourists from the large cruise ships, and there are a number of well-rated shops and restaurants around that area sprinkled among some very horrible souvenir shops.
