Awful cabin initially allocated

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Vesteralen

We chose to do a Hurtigruten trip as a once in a lifetime experience to see the Northern lights and to experience the beauty of the coastline from the comfort of the ship. B Unfortunately the first cabin we were allocated was the worst accommodation I have ever experienced, too small for two people ( to be frank only just acceptable for one) barely room to move past each other, storage space ...

First Viking Ocean Cuise And The Last

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Viking Sky

My wife and I have cruised many times with Celebrity and always received 1st class service. We have completed many of the popular cruises more than once so was looking for alternative itinerary's. We booked an Explorer Suite with Viking (similar price to a Penthouse with Celebrity) expecting a premium cruise experience but how wrong we were. We opted for the flight and cruise package just in case ...

Not value for money

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Nordnorge

User Avatar

Chose this due to fantastic marketing by Hurtigruten but the reality does not live up to the marketing. The Norwegian coast is not how it's portrayed in promotional material and the towns are not quaint fishing village types but industrial towns. Not very attractive. The food was OK and varied choices buffet style for breakfast and lunch. Set dinner served most nights, portion size small. Buffet ...

Viking is not our cup of tea.

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Viking Star

This was our first Viking cruise. We cruise about 5-6 weeks a year and usually cruise Celebrity but have also enjoyed Royal Caribbean. For a change of pace and because the reviews were good, we decided to give Viking Ocean a try. We booked the 14 night "In the Wake of Vikings" cruise from Bergen to Montreal. Well, let's just say we're not drinking the Viking Ocean Kool-Aid. We do not see the ...

Great views/lousy company

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Richard With

Spectacular views, OK staff, but terrible, stingy organization. Truly irritating experience booking excursions. The agents constantly referred us to the online info. However, the online information was wrong, and had been wrong since before it was published online. We recommend you verify any of your important assumptions with a human, even if you have to push them to great confirmation from ...

POOR EXCURSION EXPERIENCE

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Viking Sky

We enjoyed our on board experience but were VERY DISAPPOINTED with several of the excursions and especially the paid-for excursions. My main reason for this trip was to see Berlin. We took the "Historic Berlin" tour for $418 for both of us. We wanted to see the Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, and go to the American Allies Museum which were all included on this tour. We saw the Wall and the ...

Misleading advertising

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Viking Sea

We were very disappointed with our 2 week British Isles cruise on Viking Sun. Viking pricing and advertising would lead one to expect a premium, e.g. Crystal, Silversea, Seabourn, cruise experience. Not even close. Viking offers a somewhat smaller cabin with a nice, by cruise-liner standard’s, shower. No tubs or walk in closets here. Occasionally good, but generally poor to mediocre food. ...

Great scenery, good food, indifferent and rude service.

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Otto Sverdrup

This cruise was all about the scenery which was made even better by the near perfect weather. The food was quite good. They offer buffet breakfast and lunch. Dinner is table service with a fixed menu. They offer an a la carte service in a different dining room for an additional 500 - 800 NOK. I could never get an adequate explanation for what the value was for a different meal service. As best I ...

Obviously Under-Staffed

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Trollfjord

I chose this cruise because of the Northern Lights Astronomy Voyage theme. I am very satisfied with the lectures and viewings organized by Dr John Mason and Inger Carter and I would highly recommend their program. However, Hurtigruten really fell through on there responsibility to provide services during the voyage. The cruise ship was obviously under-staffed as confirmed by personnel that I ...

Slow Boat to another port to see the Northern lights

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Otto Sverdrup

We wanted to see the Northern Lights and having failed to see them on a 3 day visit to Iceland our research convinced us that a cruise along the Norwegian coast may provide the best opportunity. Indeed this holiday offer guaranteed a siting or else we would get another 6 day cruise for free. We were well advised on what to bring for the trip but because Carole is Lactose intolerant we made it ...
