It was raining when we arrived in Bergen so we boarded the city tour bus just to get out of the rain. It was not very enjoyable due to some of the rain coming in through the open windows.Other passengers told us that they took the little road train which went up the hillside of Bergen that the double decker bus could not go and that it gave better views for taking photo's. This was our second visit to Bergen. We took the free shuttle into town and refreshed our memories of this pleasant city. On a fine day the view from the top of the funicular is excellent, and there are walks up the top for those of an exploring bent. Read Less

We got ready to go into Bergen but had made the foolish decision to leave coats behind. It took around 15 minutes to walk into town. We walked to the funicular but as the weather was pretty rubbish we decided to give it a miss. Bergen was lovely just a shame we weren't prepared for the weather. We went in one of the shops on the way back and bought our self a Christmas decoration in a box and got my mum one too. It wasn't too expensive but nearly everywhere in Norway was. We had lots of fun working out prices and gasping lol. After walking through the grounds of Bergen castle we made our way back to the ship by which point we were soaking wet. Read Less

We skipped the trip and took the FLØIBANEN FUNICULAR up then walked down. Fairly detailed map available at top station, and we had downloaded detailed map onto iPad for Openstreetmap beforehand. This allowed us to find a very pretty path down the back way; quite steep, we wished we were still in our walking boots. Amazing coming down the river in lovely scenery until only 1/2 mile form the boat. And some lovely old houses in that 1/2 mile too. Great city to visit but be prepared for rain - we have found for every dry visit we have had to Bergen we have then had a wet one! Would recommend trip on funicular railway - pleasant country walks at the top.Tourist information centre above fish market very helpful. Read Less

Large port with plenty going on. Old original wood houses are still in historic part of town. Worth visiting. Large working port means you need a bus straight off the ship. Read Less

Walked around town, visited Rosenkrantz Tower, Fish Market, Festplassen park, and took the Funicular ride, then did some hiking. Had lunch at Pingvinen. A very nice day. The sun even came out. We had ridiculously nice weather the entire trip, and even though we were told it 'always rains in Bergen' we got lucky. Read Less

Had read that Bergen easy city to do on own - had hop-on, hop-off bus service and tourist info had detailed maps, plus ship docked an easy walk to the old town area, museums and other sites as well as restaurants. Is a fun city to just wander - poked our nose into the museum that gave the history of the manufacture of cod liver oil and salted cod - was fascinating! Read Less

Bergen is one of Norway's largest cities. There was more to do than we had time for. There is no need to pay for an excursion here. We headed to the tourist information centre then on to the funicular. This was well worth doing. There was a bit of a queue but it didn't take long to pile into the crammed carriage and make our ascent up the mountain. The views were spectacular and there was plenty of space to wander around at the top. We also walked arooud Bryggen which was interesting and very photogenic. There are some nice shops in Bergen. Make sure you take a converter so you don't overspend. Read Less

Lovely town, we did it on our own and it is a easy walk into the centre of town. We took the finicula up the mountain for views of the city. Then walked down the mall, went to the fish market on the wharf and walked through town to see a lovely fountain. Unfortunately it was raining so we then headed back though a fort back to the ship for a late lunch. Would have spent more time in town if the weather was better. Read Less

We expected bad weather during this cruise and we got our worst weather here. We did go to a museum to get out of the rain. I wanted to ride the funicular but the lines were long. So, we got on the bus and rode out to the cable car. It goes twice as high as the funicular and offers really great views. Yes, it did sleet while we were there. Read Less

We took the city sightseeing bus which was more expensive than we usually pay and also took the funicular railway which was excellent value and gave us an amazing view of the town. The market was very interesting and varied but prices were inflated. We were lucky to have a dry day as it usually rains in Bergen. There was a very cold wind though. Pack your waterproof and warm sweater! Be aware that Norway is expensive so take sufficient euros or krona for the things you want to do. Read Less

We took the Norway in a Nutshell tour which lasted 9 hours. This was an incredible tour involving coach and two train journeys. We went through some incredible scenery, had a wonderful lunch at a spectacular hotel, went down the steepest road in Norway and travelled on the famous Fram railway, the steepest 'normal' trainline in Europe. A very expensive day but well worth the money and not to be missed. Read Less

Bergen is a big city therefore you can go sight-seeing or shopping. The market at the end of the pier is interesting, particularly the fish stalls. It's fun to sample some of their delicacies. Again it is easy to see a lot by just walking. Read Less

Bergen was the last port and for only 6 hours and a free shuttle bus provided into the town from the port. Some people booked walking tours round the town and there was a Greig concert for music lovers. The funicular railway to the viewing plateau over the town is well worth doing. Read Less

We docked at what looked like the goods shipyard. Thomson did provide a shuttle-bus service to the centre of town, which was frequent and good. Read Less
