The largest of the ports on this cruise. We took the HOHO bus as it was raining and this turned out to be a really good and informative ride.

I had done a lot of homework on Bergen, and was very excited to get there. However I was not as impressed with the place as I thought I would be. Very touristy, and not particularly interesting. The highlight for me was the private tour I booked with the Edvard Grieg Museum at Troldhaugen: bus picked us up at the Tourist Office by the harbor, drove us out to Grieg's home, where we had a private tour of his house (very nice), time to visit his composing "hut" and his grave, and then a private piano concert in the small concert hall next to his home. It was a Norwegian pianist, who not only played for an hour, but told us a lot about Grieg, his times, his work, and his place in Norwegian musical history. VERY nice tour! Read Less

Self guided tour again, long queues for funicular railway, both up and down, but worth the views when you get up there.

We spent 24 hours prior to our cruise, and recommend visits to Trollhaugen, The Floibahnen and the Bryggenn The centre of Bergen is compact and pleasant with plenty of eating places around the Brygg and Harbour.

Bergen is very scenic especially when the clouds lift! We docked in the commercial port area and had to take a complimentary shuttle bus where we were dropped off in the city centre. It's a walkable city and very pleasant. Good amount of shopping and places to eat and see. We went to the excellent Tourist Info centre and got tickets for the funicular and spent some time up Mount Floien - which was even better when the clouds lifted! Norway can be expensive to eat out in so check prices very carefully! Snack foods were tasty and reasonably priced! Read Less
