We again took the Hop On bus that was not at the dock but a few blocks away. We visited their fish market that consisted of some outdoor tents lined up next to each other. The restaurant beside it also had counters of fish and cheese for sale. Very expensive. We stopped at a bar to do emails and have a drink. When converting the bill to Canadian dollars, it was around $30 - yikes this was for one each of wine & beer. When we got home the Mastercard said it was $35.78. Beware!! Read Less

We were extremely lucky with our timing to go on the fenucular rail as a few minutes after we had left for the top, the queues were really long. Well worth the trip to the top as the view across Bergen is spectacular and a great photo opportunity for us tourists. Later we went into the Museum for the Norwegian Resistance during WWII, which was free admission and tea and coffee was also available. After we had gone around the museum, we asked if we could make a donation to the upkeep of the museum, but we were told that they are not allowed to accept donations, what a shame as it was such a great place. If you plan to do the funicular railway get off the ship early and head into town - we got there just after 9 and by the time we came down the queues were out of the building !! Great views from the top - cafe and souvenir shop and viewing platforms and a small park. When we came down we had a wander around the lake and the found ourselves in the old part of Bergen, "The old wooden houses" by the quay. Take some time to wander down the lanes and into the little galleries and shops, not just usual tourist stuff. We also walked through the fish market - a tad smelly but interesting. Read Less

Bergen was the best port of call by a million. We wandered round without going on an excursion so much the best way to do it. We were then not herded about like cattle. Best day in Norway

Our favorite port. We booked a 3-1/2 hour fjord cruise that left from the quay about a 15-minute walk from the ship. The cruise was beautiful, taking us past mountains, waterfalls, and wildlife. We stopped to feed goats, and then later watched the ship's hand fill a bucket with crystal clear water from a waterfall, which he poured out for everyone to taste. When we left the boat, we happened upon a wonderful Thai-Japanese restaurant on the quay, where we had a great meal. We then walked back through the fish market, to Bryggen, the old town. We then returned to the ship through the park. Read Less

Really enjoyed Bergen. So much history and lots of places to walk around and to get off the beaten track. Fish market is well worth a visit. Expensive but worth it.
