The 2nd biggest city in Norway and it is clearly very much a tourist trap. We did the Funicular up into the hills where there were some nice views. We also wandered around the famous fish market. There was clearly a lot to do in Bergen but we had to depart at 15.30 which was much earlier than the other ports and really we felt like we needed more time there. Read Less

Easy to get around 'on your own' and see much of what there is at a lower cost than the ships tours.

Lovely city, home of Hanseatic Museum; sadly, few people know about the Hanseatic League. Take the funicular up to the top of the mountain downtown if it's nice. You can also walk up and down if you're up to it.

Unfortunately, it was a drizzly day and when we took the funicular railway to the top of Mt Floyen we could not see the view below, although we had been warned of this when buying the tickets at the booth.

It poured rain most of the day we had in Bergen so we did not take the funicular to the park at the top of the hill as we did on a previous trip. We spent the time looking at the shops and returned to the ship to take 'grandparent" duty so our daughter and son-in-law could go to town. They had a great time shopping and found lots of things to buy. Read Less

Again, we took the HOHO bus. It was a rainy day but we had a ball. Lunch at the fish market and when the weather cleared we walked back to the ship through Bryggn and the old Rosencrantz Castle area.

As time is limited here due to an early departure in the afternoon it is best to get out early. Make your first destination, if not on a tour, the funicular railway. It cost 180kr to ride up and back, and if you are not there early the queue becomes massive. The views from the top are well worth seeing. A visit to the fish market is a must and walking the town is the best way, To see it all will require another visit at sometime. A lovely place. Read Less

Beautiful old Norwegian city. Spent a lot of time on foot exploring the town in the afternoon after getting the lay of the land from the morning bus tour.
