Did the tour of the Mayan ruins. Even though the bus ride lasted an hour the tour guide was entertaining. Ask for bamboo chicken or Pa-ca when you are in the port. It includes a great story about Queen Elizabeth's visit to this commonwealth country. You get to climb on the ruins. If you have not done this it is a must. The girls had a fresh coconut cut open to drink the milk. I had the wine made form the fruit surrounding the Cashew nut. All good. Excellent Bargins can be had shopping in this port. Near the end of the day the prices got lower. Read Less

We did a NCL shore excursion in Belize: The Olde Belize River and Altun Ha. It was a very hot day and we spent the first half of it on the river scouting out crocodiles, howler monkeys, iguanas and different species of birds. The boat is not covered so you need a hat and sunscreen. Our guide, Pedro, was exceptionally knowledgeable and our captain was able to manoeuvre that boat into little nooks for up close pics. We had a light lunch at The Olde Belize River Tavern, chicken with rice and beans and a soft drink. It was very good. We had a very long wait here. It turned out our bus (for the next portion of our tour) had broken down and we were waiting for a replacement. There were some souvenir stalls about and a hammock which my husband availed himself of, but not much to do while we waited. When we arrived there were only a few others there, but within the half hour, the place was packed with other tours. You pick up your food inside and eat outside under covered patios. Thankfully, there was a wonderful tropical breeze. It was approximately 40 minutes to Altun Ha, the Mayan ruins, over very bumpy roads. Once again, our guide gave us a lot of information about the ruins and we had time to climb the Temple of the Sun God. It was pretty neat. The afternoon sun was so hot that I had regretted not bringing a hat. There are places near the parking area to get a cold drink ($1 US for a cold bottle of water) but prepare yourself for very persuasive vendors. By the time we returned to the port, we had only approximately 10-15 minutes before the last tender so my hope to do any shopping was dashed. The ships cannot dock at Belize due to the shallow water, so they anchor out about 4 1/2 miles and we take smaller boats (tenders) into shore (20 minutes). Read Less

We purchased Cave Tubing with lunch via the ship. The ship was anchored out what appeared to be 5 miles out, tendering to and from was OK, only lengthy process was loading and unloading the tender. Instructions of to and from bus, days event expectations, how, when and where for facilities, lunch and meeting point was not clear or fully explained. We were not grouped or told these are your travel mates/group or to keep up with one another until after we arrived at the excursion point, too late. This should have been done on the pier before we entered the restroom. The bus left some people as we were in the restroom with our group that we had not been introduced as a group. The hour long bus ride with a slow driver was interesting, yet long. The city itself was poor and non-interesting. The excursion was interesting and educational but not fully as expected in excitement value. Lunch was unorganized, slow and confusing as to the process. Last tender was suppose to be at 4:15 and an hour later, they were still tendering back to the ship. As we left our excursion point late with a slow driver, we got back to the pier at 4:30 to find a line about a 1/2 mile long awaiting for what appeared to be one tender running. Read Less

We loved Belize City! In fact up to that point it was our favorite port we'd ever been to. I've read and heard other things that Belize is a rough place you have to be careful. Well we didn't see anything like that. Our experience was fantastic. We went on a Mayan ruins and river tour through Caves Branch. While the Mayan ruins were very cool the real fun was in the river tour. Our guides were simply put, AMAZING! They went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. We saw monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, and even dolphins that swam up next to our boat! It was an amazing experience. Read Less

This is a tender port, so you have to catch a small boat to the port, they separate you by whether you booked a excursion with Carnival or were going out on your own, we had booked our own tour with cave-tubing.com, so we had to go to the lounge about 8am, we got loaded on the tender about 840am and we made it to the shore about 930am, and had a great day with our tour guide Dayton, for about half the cost of what the ship charged. We also had a couple hours to spare before we had to be back on ship. We really enjoyed this port. Read Less

Belize: We booked with coral breezes to do the Ray and Shark Snorkel and Caye Caulker tour. It was nice, but not enough time on Caye Caulker. This is a really neat island that needs a couple hours to explore. We had less than 1 hour for lunch and exploring. Belize City didn't seem to have much to offer. Either you took a long bus ride into the country for cave tubing, Mayan ruins or zip lining, or you took a water related tour off shore. No beaches on the mainland. Read Less

We took the "Crystal Caves Tubing and Zip Combo" excursion and enjoyed it very much. First is an hour long bus ride from the ship to the caves and zip lines, which was narrated without pause by our guide. it was an "un Belize-able" experience. Only when you arrive at the site is it determined which event you will do first. In our case we did the zip lines first and caves second. Both were fun for young and old alike. Walking in the caves can be dark and obstacle-filled, so those who are not sure-footed should take extra care. The crystal cave was beautiful and we had a very pleasant young guide; it was sometimes difficult to hear him though with the echo of adjacent tour guides interfering. It makes for a cool respite on a hot day. We didn't spend any time in Belize City, other than driving though in the bus. It did not strike us that we missed anything. Read Less

We went on a cave tubing adventure in Belize. We went with cavetubing.bz, Vitalino Reyes. He was recommended by a friend who had used him in the past. We were greeted outside the terminal and transported to the cavetubing site. We gathered our equipment and hiked to the drop-in site. Our helmets had lights so we could see our surroundings while floating through the caves on an underground river. Vitalino takes you on a longer hike, which gives you more caves than most of the other outfitters or than on the ships excursions. We also got a nice meal at the Reyes family restaurant - included in the $45 price. This excursion was well worth the price. Read Less

We went on a snorkel tour with Coral Breezes to Caye Caulker. This was without a doubt the most beautiful snorkel spot I have ever seen. There is a drawback. It takes 30 to 40 minutes in a boat to get there. When you throw in the time wasted with a tour of 30 to 40 people, the tender from the ship to shore, your time gets used up very quickly. I would have liked to spend more time on Caye Caulker. It is a beautiful laid back island with no big resorts. If I were to do this again, I would skip the tour and take the water taxi to Caye Caulker then rent a small boat there to go out to the reef to snorkel. One advantage to Coral Breezes is that everything is organized for you. Equipment, boat, lunch and chum to attract the nurse sharks and rays. The Coral Breezes guides were great and took good care of us. I would use the tour if I had inexperienced snorkelers. If you are an experience snorkeler, skip the crowd and go on your own. Read Less

Ahhh...Belize! One of my favorite places. We were tendered into Belize and immediately booked the same snorkeling excursion that we booked last November for $49 each. As soon as you hit Belize City, you will see "Eco Tour" vendors holding blue signs. Our excursion left at 10:30 a.m. We were taken by boat (about 20 min) to Goff's Caye, a gorgeous island that is only 1.5 acres. There is a restroom on the island. Ask for Gilbert to be your tour guide. We also had Skinny, Janine & Jose, who are all great guides. The snorkeling was good, but the guides really make the trip enjoyable and you will want to tip them and they definitely earn it. All the rum punch you want is included and for $8 more you can enjoy grilled chicken on the beach, which was very good. We snorkeled for a couple of hours, ate and still had time to enjoy the beach/water. We were taken back to Belize by boat and still had time to shop before being tendered back to the Spirit.
