It was a 30-minute each way tender port. After the problems tendering 10-minutes into Grand Cayman, we didn't leave the ship in Belize City.

A great opportunity to stretch your legs. Come out of the cruise port and turn right and take a walk along to the Belize sign for a photo opportunity - there's also a cafe opposite where you can support the local economy and the local park. Next, carry along the promenade to the Bliss Lighthouse for a little local history. The cross over and walk through Fort George Memorial Park and you will find the small artisan market where you can see craftsmen at work and purchase goods directly from the maker (or some mass-produced items for those a little less creative). Once you come out of the market, head back towards the port and cross through and over the bridge to hit up downtown and see some of the colonial architecture of the city. One thing IS for sure, don't listen to the passengers telling you it's unsafe; we were two ladies, mature in age, who enjoyed a good walk without too much hassle (generally just around the port area with the usual pushing of taxis and tours). Take the time to see this city at your own pace and certainly without any safety concerns. Read Less

The ruins were amazing. We had a 1 hours ride to the river boat site and then 1 hour on the river to the archaeological site. Due to a late start at the pier, we were rushed the entire time. We got maybe an hour at the site, and was told no souvenir shopping. We were supposed to have lunch at noon at a picnic area at the site, but due to time constraints (getting back to the ship on time) we didn't eat and took the 1 hour boat ride back to the river boat dock. They layed out the lunch and told us to get a styrofoam clamshell container and fill it with lunch to eat in the van on the way back to the dock. It was hard to eat in the cramped van and made for some car sickness feelings. Read Less

Best excursion, highly recommend. Book independently as much cheaper and you get longer time on the river and they feed you an amazing lunch
