The boat tour of the Atchafalaya Basin was a bit wet because of the springtime storms. But it was still beautiful trip through the bayou. (see picture)

First thought was "why would you stop here?" Most attractions are closed on Sundays and Mondays. We took the USS Kidd tour, and then the last minute added "Meander with Mike" walking tour which was an excellent addition. He is the on board historian and took us through two beautiful neighborhoods you would never know existed. This defintiely changed our opinion of this port. A bus tour to Houmas house was also offered (one of the orignal ports we could not get to because of the high waters). Read Less

Our tour the grand plantation tour, we saw four sugar cane plantations over a two day time period. This is an excellent view into the past of the Mississippi River grandeur. My husband was driven by golf cart up to the Planetarium and they had a wheelchair that they loaned us. We enjoyed their exhibits and the 360 presentation on the Pharohs of Egypt. Later in the afternoon, we took the Historic Baton Rouge Tour by luxury bus and enjoyed the expertise driving of Max, but did not care for the guide who read off of cards through the whole tour.We stopped at the LA Museum, and they also had a wheelchair that we were able to borrow, so my husband was able to see all floors of their magneficient exhibits. Taking 45 minutes at the old capitol and a hour in the new building to look at where Senator Long was shot and go up to the observation deck along with the new museum for 45 minutes would have been a better tour for me, but I am still quite mobile. The shore excursion in Baton Rouge was fun and informative. There was a coach tour of the city which was more beautiful and interesting than I had imagined. The tour included a stop at a state museum of Louisiana history and culture that was fascinating. There was not enough time to see the whole thing, but knowing it was there, I left feeling interested in returning and spending more time there if future circumstances permitted. I needed to make a personal purchase while in town and the tour guide went out of the way to help me locate a handy nearby market to accomplish this. Very gracious. Read Less

Almost missed our bus for city tour because lunch was running late. Later on we walked around ourselves and got a private tour - from the valet parking guy! - of a beautiful hotel created in a historic bank building complete with bank vault. The highlight for me was finding three friendly cats in a landscape architect's garden. Next trip I'm packing some cat treats just in case. Read Less

The walking tour was very interesting. We got to see the old capital building, and then went inside the new capital. The view from the 27th floor was outstanding.
