Did our own thing. As the ship stayed here for two days we took advantage and found a hotel on the island of Ko Lan off Pattaya. Great beach and swimming.

We have been before so had a relaxing day onboard the first day then hired a taxi from the stand to take us to an elephant farm, the Temple of Truth and the Floating Market. Had a good day but the driver didn't speak a lot of English. You get what you pay for, in this case it did not matter as we only needed a driver not a guide. The taxi was very new and comfortable. So many highlights. Take the ship shuttle to Central World shopping centre, walk 10 minutes to Siam Sky Train; catch water taxi to Grand Palace, then walk or tuk tuk to reclining Buddah. Alternatively, haggle taxi price at port to go direct to Grand Palace. Whatever the time, it will be crowded. If you've already done this, there are plenty of good museums and other tourist spots. Azamara excursion to floating market is an excellent option for the last half-day in Bangkok. Read Less

We took the ship shuttle to Pattaya twice. First time we walked around and shopped for bargains. Used the pickup style cab the second time to get from the centre of town out to the Sanctuary of Truth and walked back into town. Great.

The shuttle was very convenient if you wanted to do your own thing. Having been to Bangkok a number of times that suited us very well giving us flexibility and the opportunity to walk and shop through the city.

Laem Chabang itself is just an industrial port... nothing to see here. We ended up taking an independent transport to Pattaya, which was a nice beach town. Lots of sand, surf, shops, bars and restaurants. It takes about 30 minutes to get there. The next day we took independent transport to Bangkok, which takes about 90 minutes to get to. Note, independent transport is typically cheaper and more value-add than what the ship offers. However, it doesn't give you the peace of mind if the ship alters it's itinerary. Read Less

Depending on traffic, Bangkok is 2-3 hours away from where the ship docks. As a result, 1600 of the 2000 passengers overnighted in Bangkok. We arranged our own private tours. During the day, we were with our awesome guide, Rut, from Your Thai Guide (https://yourthaiguide.com) who showed us around the Grand Palace and some temples, and in the evening we did the Hangover Tour (http://bangkokhangovertours.com) with our lovely hostess, Aya. If you are open-minded and want to experience the Bangkok nightlife, we highly recommend this tour! This was the one day we completely planned on our own and this was our favorite part of the trip. I don't think it was a coincidence. Read Less

Having been to Bangkok and Pattaya we elected to stay on board only going ashore to connect to the Internet in the terminal. $3US for 3 hours and a trip into the local shopping mall which for us was a waste of time and money.

Bangkok is a long way (over 2 hours each way). We instead went to Pattaya. The beach is ordinary and there is limited to do in the town. It is worthwhile seeing the Sanctuary of Truth.

Excellent facilities on the ground. The shuttle bus into town was a first class arrangement and always so much to do in this city.
