Booked our own tour not with the cruise line through Expat Holiday tours. We were picked up at the port and went and swam with the dolphins, saw a dolphin show, went to the floating market, and rode elephants and the Pattaya Elephant Village. Then we took a private car (outside the port gate) after negotiating a price the adults went to downtown Pattaya for dinner and walking. The next Day we went back into Pattaya to ride go carts that went 70km per hour, shop, and get Thai Massage. Read Less

Since I live in a condo looking across the bay at Laem Chabang I know it well. Not much at the Port (it is a Port) but outside at Naklua or Sri Racha there is much to see and do.

Laem Chabang is a container terminal. Nothing to see nearby! We booked a van travelling to Bangkok (for my family group of 7). It took 2 hours travel one way! Total cost is US$180 for return trip! Much cheaper than booking shore excursion. If group size is smaller, can book taxi for 4/5 at a lower cost! P.S. Our scheduled route was to Japan and Korea with 3 days shore activities, due to typhoon, the ship changed route to Vietnam and Thailand. Only 2 days shore. For Vietnam, we went to a place named Nha Trang and cannot search from the port experience list! Read Less

The terminal is a long distance from Bangkok, about a two hours bus drive or Pattaya approx one hour bus drive. The ship was overnight in location so pax could head to Bangkok and stay overnight in town (naturally you will have to pay for your own accommodation) or pay for it as part of your ships tour. We visited Pattaya, took a local bus that left at regular invervals and cost $12.50 pp return, children under 10 if they sat on your lap where free. Read Less

There was just a container port, which was many kilometres away from any village, house or local transport. We have been to bangkok before and dont want to go there again for USD 500,-- incl. 1 night hotel

A great day with the Elephants. Not just a show like we have seen in the past but a lot of "Quality" time spent riding on trails, roads and crossing rivers and ponds.

Organized my own tour where we over-nighted in Bangkok. Port is a long way from town( 2.5 to 3 hrs) and the traffic is bad. Won"t see much of Bangkok if you don't over night.

We were disappointed that Azamara were not offering an excursion to the River Kwai and we therefore booked an independent tour online with BKK Tours based in Bangkok. (www.BKKtours.com) We were lucky to be berthed in Klong Tuoey and relatively close to the City and the ship ran shuttle services into town. We had two nights in Bangkok and therefore were able to have two days of shore excursions. We therefore arranged with BKK tours for a day around Bangkok on the first day and River Kwai on the second. The company were wonderful and excellent guide call Chow and his colleague Peter the driver of the most luxurious mini-bus imaginable for two people. Chilled water, cold towels on each return to the coach were delightful as it was very hot. We visited a market which straddles a railway line and when the trains approach they sound their horn and the stallholders move back their wares raise the sun blinds and the train passes through. Once past they put everything back again and this procedure is repeated several times a day. The visit to River Kwai was amazing and could not have been better. When we returned to the ship we ask to Shore excursion Manager why Azamara did not have a tour to River Kwai and he exclaimed "What is the River Kwai" and why go there!!! Read Less

Make your own deal at the port with taxi. It will be far cheaper than anything you get from HAL. HAL will hold off in giving you any info on the port until you sign up for their excursion.
