We had never been to Burma and were intrigued by the political developments there. The cruise itself was very somfortable witrh an extremely attentive staff and the usual Viking good planning for shore excursions The stay at Inle Lake was magical, with outstanding accomodations, and the discovery of a waterborne way of life we had never seen before (or since)! The depth of the Budhist ...

A fantastic opportunity to experience a difference culture and a far different way of life. We were not disappointed. From a taste of opulent life in a grand hotel in Bangkok to the simple and basic life in Myanmar. Beautiful people with a welcome smile for all. A marvelous experience to find a third world country with no begging. A rare experience, there were the usual "vendors", mostly ...

We wanted to see Myanmar before it is changed forever by mass tourism. This itinerary allowed us to visit not only the major centres of Yangon and Mandalay but also small remote villages only accessible easily by river. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting some of the local people, especially the children who were so eager to practice their language skills on us. Visiting local markets was very ...

Viking has a wonderful Myanmar cruise/tour itinerary. You get a chance to see some of the major tourist sites but also visit small villages. Many people loved the villages most of all. The trip starts in Bangkok at the beautiful Shangri-La Hotel. We arrived 2 days ahead but did not use the Viking pre-tour extension. It was less expensive to take a cab to the hotel (500 baht), upgrade to a ...

A trip down the Irrawaddy, this s a small river ship, 28 cabins and maximum of 56 passengers. We had already sailed on this river ship in Vietnam and Cambodia, so knew the layout and quirks. This cruise is all inclusive, all meals are served in the only dining room at set times, limited menu choices but caters for most tastes. The sail down the Irrawaddy has stops every day to visit either a ...

I arrived in Bangkok a week before the cruise to take advantage of a pre-cruise land excursion (Oceania's) to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The next day the Concierge arranged for a cab for the day, which took me to several temples I wanted to see - 5 hours for $50 (plus a generous tip, of course). The Angkor Wat trip was very interesting. There were 18 of us who took advantage of it. We returned to ...

First of all..we were docked at Klong Toey not way down in Laem Chabang which was a BIG plus as far as getting to the ship and for the day of shore excursions. We love travelling with Oceania..especially on the smaller ships, Nautica, Regatta and Insignia. They have almost a family feel and you get to know the staff and they know you after a few days. This ship was the perfect size (682) for a ...

After a wonderful night and morning at the Shangri-La Hotel, we were driven by BMW to the ship at Laem Chabang(Bangkok). We went through all the paper work fast and boarded the ship. On board we made new friends from Canada,USA,New Zealand and Australia and spent many nights going to shows and dinners with them. We attended the activities on board, viewed sky lined lights from Hong Kong, ...

Background: I tend to be a small ship person so Cunard is a bit of a stretch for me. I first tried a QM2 transatlantic crossing on 2007 and my reaction was "too big and impersonal", but my behavior has not been very consistent with that assessment. I left the ship with a booking for a crossing on the way home from a vacation I had already booked for Africa the following summer. I booked 2 more ...

We have cruised on the Sun Princess from Sydney 3 times, so didn't expect to the Diamond Princess to be much different apart from size , but was pleasantly surprised. Service was wonderful , food was outstanding , everything was so much better than what we had had on the Sun Princess. We had the aft cabin on Aloha deck A749, A bit of noise from the scrapping chairs above , other than that a ...
