Not a place we ever want to go back to. Once you've seen the Acropolis and the Parthenon and a couple of museums no need to stay there. Definitely an excursion away from Athens is recommended.

Wasted day because of sales pitch and made us wait three hours. Would rent a taxi off the ship to take us to see the Acropolis.

Due to arriving on a Sunday not much to see. Why do P&O dock at some ports on a Sunday when most shops are closed.

I have been many times before in both Athens and Piraeus. This time I intended to stay in Piraeus, but because of insufficient available information of what is available and what is not offshore, I wasted most of my time

Poor only because we were not informed about the shuttle bus - very few people seemed to know about it. We went to the Acropolis and managed very well by Taxi returning by Metro and Train BUT we had a horrendous walk back to the ship which was parked in dock 12 miles around the dock and from the train terminus. Plus we paid full price to get into the Acropolis because the captain confiscated our passports, without explanation - the only time this has happened to me before was on a Russian ship in 1977? Did not like this port one bit. We got off the ship and din't take the excursions (not really worth it when travelling with two small kids). We decided to take a walk into the town but got about 200 metres up the road, decided it looked all a bit grotty and went back to the ship. Maybe had we carried out it would have got better but we met another family who had made it into the town and they said it was just as bad. I would definitely recommend an excursion is travelling here or alternatively have a ship day whilst its quiet! Read Less

We wound up arranging private transport from some retired taxi drivers outside the port area. The Acropolis was great though it is under renovation and many of our pictures included some of the structural supports and building machinery. However, the highlight was the Acropolis museum which collects and preserves artifacts found at the site. Athens as a city was not impressive. Read Less

We had intended going into Athens to explore the town since we had visited the Acropolis on a previous cruise. Unfortunately we didn't get any sleep that night, due to noise in the cabin, until after the ship berthed so we wound up only having a few hours which meant we stayed in Piraeus. We strolled around town and, whilst it's not terrible, there really isn't much to commend it. We bought an ice cream which was the cheapest of the trip but that's about all I can recommend, sorry Piraeus. Read Less
