Superb embarkation experience! We had stayed at the Titania in Athens, and our taxi driver was courteous and professional.

We hired Tours Prius. The cost was very reasonable and our guide was fantastic. We were picked up at the port and spent the entire day touring all of the sights that we wanted to see.

Took the X80 service bus to the Acropolis, and visited the Acropolis Museum - and absolutely superb museum. Then mooched around the Place, and caught the bus back. No need to spend many $$$$$!

We took the Jewish Heritage tour with Daniel Isachakis who was beyond wonderful. He was warm, personable and engaging, and so knowledgeable. He first drove us around Athens to see the sites and then took us on an extensive and memorable tour of the Jewish Museum, Synagogues, and holocaust Memorial. After the tour he took us to a local restaurant where we had the most delicious Greek meal imaginable. The next day, Daniel and his father. Haim arranged a driver to pick us up at the port and took us to the Acropolis and Parthenon where he arranged a fabulous tour guide to provide a private and very meaningful insightful tour for us. Then it was onto a couple of hours shopping and walking around the Plaka district. The costs were reasonable. I highly recommend contacting Haim for Athens excursions even if Jewish Heritage tour is not your thing. He steered us right every step of the way. Read Less

For us, better to go on our Own. Cost: 4,80 euro for metro for 5 people two ways instead of paying an excursion. We saved more than 200$ for this day.

Worth visiting for the history. No need to take expansive excursions. The city hop-on hop-off bus tours leave from beside the port and go directly to the Acropolis for much cheaper. There is a very pleasant bar-restaurant Dionysos semi-hidden among trees near the bus stop for the Acropolis where you can have a drink with a wonderful view of the Parthenon after your efforts in climbing up and down the hill. We stayed at the Hotel Grand Bretagne for one night before the cruise. This hotel was a highlight of our trip. We dined on the roof watching the sun set over the Parthenon.

Athens is easy enough to do on foot if you're willing/able. Getting there can be the trick - we had to haggle heavily with the cabbie outbound, then took the subway back.

We had pre-arranged for a taxi driver we had previously dealt with to take us on a city tour. It was fantastic and he then took us to a lovely restaurant by the water front in Pireaus. One of our best days/best ports of call.
