We took the green metro to the opposite end of the Acropolis and it was much quieter than the main entrance. Lovely outlook from the coffee shops on the way and some stalls with reasonably priced souvenirs. As we approached the queue for tickets, we looked up at the Acropolis and could see it looked a difficult walk up and I'm not very good with steps etc. So we walked around the surrounding area and just enjoyed the views. We booked our own driver through Greek Tours. Kostas drove us around Athens, explaining things while driving, and ensuring that we got to see all the major sites in Athens.

We took a taxi to the Acropolis very early in the morning. We opted to get the expensive ticket at the Acropolis ticket booth that got us in to multiple other historic sites across town. I believe it came out to be over 100 Euros total. The views of Athens and Piraeus from the Acropolis were simply breathtaking. We really enjoyed walking around the grounds of the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, The Erechtheion, Theatre of Dionysus, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. We spent several hours at the Acropolis before leaving. By the time we left around lunch time, the line at the ticket booth had hundreds of people in it. We didn't even wait in line early in the morning. We walked to the site of Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. This structure was absolutely huge! It was simply amazing to walk around at sites that are over 2400 years old. From there we walked to the Athens Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. After lunch and some shopping in the Plaka we also visited the Roman Agora and the Horologion of Andonikos of Kyrrhos. I wish we would have had more time to go to a couple of the museums but we had to get back to the ship. Read Less

we got off at Terminal B! The bus is just outside the terminal, takes you directly to the Acropolis. Get there early to avoid the ship buses. Get tickets to and from. Get the 30$ package, not the 20$ to be able to enter all the sites.

Amazing. There is a bus managed by the city, just outside the boat terminal and for the cost of 4.5o euro, it takes you straight to the Parthenon. Effortless.

We hired Tours Prius. The cost was very reasonable and our guide was fantastic. We were picked up at the port and spent the entire day touring all of the sights that we wanted to see.

Took the X80 service bus to the Acropolis, and visited the Acropolis Museum - and absolutely superb museum. Then mooched around the Place, and caught the bus back. No need to spend many $$$$$!

We took the Jewish Heritage tour with Daniel Isachakis who was beyond wonderful. He was warm, personable and engaging, and so knowledgeable. He first drove us around Athens to see the sites and then took us on an extensive and memorable tour of the Jewish Museum, Synagogues, and holocaust Memorial. After the tour he took us to a local restaurant where we had the most delicious Greek meal imaginable. The next day, Daniel and his father. Haim arranged a driver to pick us up at the port and took us to the Acropolis and Parthenon where he arranged a fabulous tour guide to provide a private and very meaningful insightful tour for us. Then it was onto a couple of hours shopping and walking around the Plaka district. The costs were reasonable. I highly recommend contacting Haim for Athens excursions even if Jewish Heritage tour is not your thing. He steered us right every step of the way. Read Less
