Really enjoyed Amber Cove probably the best. It was a view into the living of a third world country. Really enjoyed the agriculture demonstrations. We were also taken to a school where the children sang to us! It ended up at the beach which was beautiful. Read Less

This area appears to be a nice cruise port complex with nice nearby all-inclusive resorts surrounded by a very economically depressed area of little interest. Read Less

We did the Outback excursion. Our tour guide was Manny and he was a delight. Very knowledgable, informative and lots of personality. We got to see a lot of the city on our way to a school where we got to spend time with children. We then had lunch with a local family, which was delicious. We also got to go to the beach for a while and got massages on the beach. We were very surprised with the beauty of the countryside....lots of mountains and so green! Read Less

Purchased the Puerto Plata Cultural Adventure excursion. It was a nice overview of the city. The highlight was an al fresco lunch in a local restaurant, Mares Restaurant and Lounge, followed by a tour of the owner’s orchid garden and art studio/gallery. The visits to the rum factory and a local museum celebrating the life of some general were boring. But our guide, Chuck, was very good. Read Less

Jungle trek, was 11/2 mile trek to get to meeting point. we waited 45 minutes for 1 coupe couple , never showed. Nice guide, nice new bus. Trek was about 2 miles to pitiful waterfall, and pooled water, muddy where you could swim, climb ladder and slide or jump into water....passed. Guide showed us many different fruits which we tasted and differnt trees and leaves that they made medicine out of. Extremely rough rock paths, wished I had worn heavy sneakers instead of water shoes.... feet were beat up and could have easily sprained an ankle in rocks. $45 BBQ lunch, everyone passed. Rum punch on bus back....30 minute bus ride each way, most under construction and rough roads....spilled my PUNCH! Read Less

Amber Cove is a great place to walk around, use the wifi and spend some relaxing time at the pool and swim up bar. I wish HAL would tell more people about the free facilities. We met several folks who had no idea what was offered. Read Less

Beautiful area, we went to Playa Bachata for the day, walkable from the port, approx. $37 pp for the day, food, drink , beach and pools. There is no beach at the cruisedock area, just a large pool area with chairs. Read Less

we took an excursion with a third party operator of the 27 waterfalls. My wife and I did I think the 13 waterfalls, which was actually almost all of the way up as the 27 waterfalls wasn't that much further apparently and had just a bunch of smaller ones. There were some really high jumps and before jumping it was pretty freaky but it was very memorable and fun. I did end up with a sore bottom after this excursion though. Read Less

This was an easy port day as you just walk off the ship and they have a giant pool with water slides and a lazy river and loungers. The only thing they charged for was zip lining. I didnt go but heard it was $20 was an all day pass. Read Less
