Amber Cover was very nice, almost resort like. We were scheduled for a snorkeling excursion but unfortunately do to weather issues it was cancelled. We were able to spend a couple of hours at Amber Cove before having to be back on the ship and it was nice. Only complaint is that there is not a separate price for someone who wants to zip line just once. My children both wanted to zip line and I had to pay the all day rate ($20 apiece) for them to zip line two times. I think that they need to have both an unlimited rate and a one time rate. Other than that it was very nice. Read Less

LA CASA EN LA PLAYA - A SELECT RETREAT... just book it. Gelen and her staff are wonderful and go WAY above and beyond to make sure that you have everything you need. They don't overbook so it truly is a select retreat, just the one bus of patrons and more than enough space to spread out, even the trip (which some people complained about) was entertaining and enjoyable. Beautiful Island. We went to the pool right when you get off the ship. We had a beautiful sunny day and the food and drink prices were quite reasonable.

We did a little shopping around the port area and picked up a nice piece of amber. We hung out at the pool there the rest of the day. Decently priced local beer (considering prices on the ship).

This is just Vegas in the Caribbean! Nothing but shopping. Plus a nice big new pool, that anyone pale can only use at sundown, (when the ships' departed).

Private pool for Carnival ships. Plenty of room/ lounge chairs for everyone. Zip lining line was really long, so we didn't get to take advantage of this. Unfortunately.

We had never been to the Dominican Republic, so we were anxious for this port. Apparently, Carnival just finishing building this port in 2015, so it is relatively new.We booked the Deluxe Sail and Snorkel excursion with Tip Top Catamaran and had a blast! We got off the ship and found our excursion guy holding our sign. We boarded a bus and drove about 45 minutes to our catamaran. The bus ride was not bad, as we learned lots about the Dominican Republic while we rode. We arrived on the beach and had to be shuttled via a dingy to our catamaran. It took about four trips to get everyone on the catamaran, and then we were off. We literally sailed about 10 minutes and stopped for our first snorkel. There wasn’t much to see and the wind and crazy waves made the water pretty murky. The waves kicked up, so we couldn’t stop at the second snorkel site. There was an open bar with free rum punch and local beer, soft drinks, fruit juice and water, lots of dancing, and a good lunch. The lunch was hard boiled eggs, coleslaw, pasta salad, tuna salad, chicken nuggets, chicken sliders, cucumber salads, bread, ham and pastrami cold cuts, etc. We ate, drank, and danced while we sailed all the way back to port. There was no bus ride on the way back. YAY! It was a fantastic day, and we even had about 45 minutes to shop in port before we had to be back on board. Read Less

Beautiful port but shopping area needs to be improved with more stores. Too generic. Also would be better with another restaurant.

Very clean. Large pool with plenty of lounge chairs. Zipline over the pool (for a $20 unlimited fee) and free waterslides at the pool. We enjoyed simply chilling by the pool.

Dominican Republic is an interesting dichotomy. The port is beautiful, but once you ride past the pretty, it is depressing. Garbage everywhere, and CRAZY drivers.

Took the Puerto Plata with Lunch tour, and it was amazing. Puerto Plata is colorful, colonial, cultural, authentic, and fun! Enjoyed the cigar factory (free samples!) Lunch activity was touristic and tacky but the stew was delicious. Rum samples were also available and very good - ended up purchasing a bottle I wasn't planning on, as well as cigars and beautiful crafts. Would definitely return here; great port for excursions. If you go independent maybe not so much - didn't see a whole lot to do at the port without a tour. Read Less

We shared a taxi with another couple and a lovely gentleman took us on a three-hour tour, including the cigar factory, a rum factory, and a chocolate factory for $80 (total for all of us). All ship's tours are overpriced cattle cars.
