A long journey in the tender, 25-40 minutes. Not much in Akaroa, population 600. We caught the bus to Christchurch and well worth the 90 minute journey. We booked the bus independently so we had no priority with Royal Caribbean to get onto the tender; So we got up super early to get on the first tender. ...

This is a lovely seaside town with a touch of French je ne sais quoi. Plenty of places to eat, lots of little shops selling unusual souvenirs and an exceptional jewellery shop. If you have time, visit St Peters Anglican Church - it is really beautiful and a testament to its builders that it survived the earthquake.
