Terrible cabin , Air conditioning not function for 3 days despite several complaints to reception. Couldn't sleep in the heat.Food in the pantry is terrible especially the Indian & Asian bars. left over fish & chips served as Indian fry fish . Roti hard as rock .All curries very bland . Basa fillet served every day without a miss.Cabin staff forget basic things like cleaning the bins, providing ordered DVD , entering cabin without knocking. On the day of disembarkation we were told to vacate the room by 7 am but the cabin staff came knocking at our door at 6 am . most of the ship staff were polite except the arrogant Captain , Executive chef Maitre D. The maitre D was always seen feeding his little daughter in the dining area with his collar sticking up. He never smiled or greeted passengers. I had requested to talk to the executive chef about the quality of food in the Pantry but he didn't bother getting back to me. The food in Dragon Lady & Waterfront restaurants were good generally unlike the Pantry. Read Less

My wife & i were not happy with p&o Cruise from the moment we got on the ship pacific Eden to start our cruise gd7r6c. We were showed to our room were we could feel a high degree of vibration the same vibration was in in may parts of the ship which continued through out the night & day it could be felt even in bed.most of the 10 days & nine nights. Except when we were cruising around 10 knots. Mostly we cruised at around 19 knots..The Viberations made us feel terrible most of the trip We were not happy with the scenic sailing of the kimberly Coast. All advertising by P&O stated that there would be scenic Cruising of Kimberley Coast Also the ships announcement given on the ships radio on Thursday 18/5/17, stated that all day Friday we would be able to see the shore We did not see any shore line on the way there or on the way back all we saw was the Entrance into Kuri Bay At Broome all the advertising about the trike tour showed a fantastic trike with a with a super car body when we arrived at Broome, the trike’s that arrived were in fact normal road machines not that which was advertised. Enquiries made to the owners of the business. revealed That It Was Never intended to use that trike for the rides in fact it was not even on the road also many of the customers that day believed that their rides would be on the super trike We would never have gone on this cruise had we known that the Super trike would not have been for this shore tour especially as the price paid was so high Also we paid for the trike tour,on 28/2/17 then we were charged again for them on our first statement. after visiting reception we were refunded for one person after more visits we got a refund for the 2nd person We had to make 4 visits to be given our $200 dollars on board ships credit during this time we were asked if we could prove we had on board credit so we produced our receipts before we were given the Credits by the ships crew as they did their level best to be polite to at all times to us When we about to begin our lunch in the water front restaurant on the afternoon of 21/5/17. We were not aware that the ship was birthing at Broome with out any notification to passengers the ship started to manoeuvring the rear of the ship into place with with very sever revving of the engines i believe using a thruster & tug the crockery & drinks on the table started to dance all over the table it was hard to stop the lot falling onto the floor. People near the ships propellers would be eating at this time Also when leaving the Ship by tender there was all ways a very strong smell of Diesel which made my wife Janet feel very sick in the stomach You are now aware of why we gave a 3 out of 10 for this cruise & why we have cancelled all further trips with The company This was our second Cruise if it had been the first My Wife Janet started she would not have even thought of a second cruise Read Less

We have sailed with P&O once before in 2012 and were not impressed then. We thought we'd try the Pacific Aria as it's supposedly the new style with P&O - but after doing so have decided this will be our last cruise with them. As a suite passenger we were eligible for priority boarding which we took advantage off. Having boarded in Brisbane quite a few times we found this process fantastic. From check in to ship in under 15 minutes. Once we got to Deck 10 we noticed all the bags just laying around - not in front of doors like you would normally see but just piled up for people to collect after they've identified. Nobody was minding the bags though, so effectively they could have been taken by anyone. See below for specific review. CABIN: Wow! These are in desperate need of an upgrade. We booked a suite cabin 10006. The cabins are so old the artwork is the same artwork that was on the old Statendam before it even became a P&O ship. There are mirrors everywhere (incredibly unflattering). Cupboard door broken, old brown furniture, squeaky bed. Worse of is cabin 10006 is right next to the bridge and absolutely stinks of cigarette smoke - it's in the hall, on the walls, the carpet - - horrible!!! There was no real benefits to a suite apart from that early boarding. FOOD: On the Aria you need to make your dinner reservations, if you don't then you won't have anywhere to eat but the Pantry. The Pantry is a great concept, no sticky fingers and no plates piled high with food that gets thrown away. However, it was lacking a bit in choice. 1 indian dish, 1 asian dish etc. There really should have been more. The dining was all very bland. Angelos - I had pasta that looked and tasted like glue, it really wasn't nice. Dragon Lady has a spectacular decor but is let down by horrendous food that isn't even trying to be Asian. Salt Grill was ok. Not as wonderful as I remembered it. Waterfront was exceptionally slow. 3 hours for lunch because there was such a lack of staff. PUBLIC AREAS: This is where they've spent the money and they look great, however some areas have a sewage smell (not very nice). We particularly liked the Spectacular show on night 1. What we did find annoying was they kept holding trivia in inconvenient places. It was different every day and every time we settled down with our book the 'rowdy crowd' would arrive. It just seemed we couldn't escape. In terms of what was on daily, nothing really - apart from Trivia there never seemed to be much around. SPA & GYM: I don't think I've ever used a gym on a cruise (defeats the purpose of a 'holiday') but my hubby tells me that it was nice and fitted with modern equipment. We did use the spa. Really loved the thermal suites - they were run down but I viewed them as a place to escape screaming kids. The only problem we had was that even though the passes were limited to the first 20 passengers on board ($129 for the duration of the cruise) the first 4 passengers were loud as crazy and did ruin the experience - but that's a people problem not a P&O. If I'm being honest, they are tracking in the right direction with ideas such as the pantry etc. however, there was just too many failures like the terrible food (one cake mix for all desserts & just different toppings), disgusting room decor that has not been updated since the late 90s and really bad service. However, I will say this. P&O is let down by their service for this one reason. They lack staff. 1 room attendant for the entire floor. Princess has 1 per 16 cabins - so you definitely notice this. All in all, won't be back.. Sorry P&O! Read Less

We chose this cruise after booking a Celebrity Cruise only to find out the Taxes and Gratuities made them Very expensive. In Santo we booked the Northern seaside and Blue hole tour. The Northern seaside was beautiful and we had a nice swim. The Blue hole was more a stagnant creek and disappointing. The Tour guides (drivers) did not interact with the passengers at all so it was like a bus ride with two destinations. All the passengers were sitting in the Buses for half an hour waiting to go back to the Ship. I would not waste money on this tour. I did a Scuba dive on the President Coolidge, great dive and value for money. In Port Vila we had the Round Island tour organised and paid for weeks in advance. The night before arrival in Port Vila we had a note on the door saying the following days tour had been cancelled due to not enough numbers. We had no time to book another tour, all other tours were booked out anyway so this wasted our day visiting Port Vila. Instead we were constantly harassed by obnoxious Taxi Drivers. Note the real reason the tour was cancelled was because they don't operate on a Sunday Pity P&O chose to make excuses diminishing our experience even further. Champagne Bay and Mystery Island were great destinations, snorkelling also great. Tender transfers were poorly organised and were much slower than needed to be. We mostly ate at the Waterfront restaurant as this was the best service and the Food always good. We originally booked Luke Mangans Salt for two dinners. We found the service excellent and the Entrees were exceptional, however both our Main meals were a disappointment. I had the Seared Tuna, it was overcooked and dry. Jo had the Snapper, it tasted like it had been left out too long and was disgusting. We cancelled our second booking at Salt. We were sold a Sauna package for $329.00 I asked if there was a fact sheet for this package and was told there wasn't one. We were sold on the details which were open from 0800 until 2200, when in the Sauna we could have free Champagne. On the second day we visited the Sauna at 1200 after a workout, when we asked for Champagne, we were told they don't serve it until after 1300. We went back to the Sauna at 1930 after dinner, asked for Champagne which arrived only to be told the Sauna closes at 2000 and we had to get out. Most of the rooms were turned off by the time we arrived anyway. The next day I went to reception to cancel the Sauna package as we were not happy with it. After two days I was part refunded for this package. I found everything about the Spa was hard sell and deceitful the way it was sold. I suppose you could say we learnt the hard way however all these little things add up to a pretty ordinary experience, hopefully there is some good information to save people from from the pitfalls we fell in to. We organised this cruise with a group of friends and with our adult (21 and 22 year old sons) to get together. One couple had never cruised before and wanted a short cruise to try it out. Unfortunately I don't think they will ever cruise again. My husband and I have cruised many times (around 12) - Royal Carribean, Norweigian, Holland, Carnival, Princess and Celebrity - which you obviously pay more for but we thought how can you go wrong with a 3 night cruise. We had a few problems with the staff. Our adult sons were in the spa one afternoon with some other people they had just met and were told to get out by Kerry from Youth Security because very young kids (from kids club - and not paying passengers) were getting in and the staff didn't want adults in the spa with the kids. There are a total of 2 hot spas on the ship. Our sons tried to talk to Kerry from Youth Security who had told them to get out of the spa. They tried to find out (from Kerry from Youth Security) why they were not allowed in the spa, but got nowhere as P&O obviously think it is easier to look after kids in one spot (spa) than run after them while mum & dad are enjoying themselves, (which is what our sons should be doing) as paying customers. Also one night 10 of us went to the Luke Mangan restaurant at 8.00 p.m. - (remember you pay $50 pp extra for the trouble). Our waiter (Kylie - a male) was not very polite. We felt it was a lot of trouble for him to try and explain the menu to us. Rolled eyes and the rest. When the bill came he just threw it at us. We wanted to pay separately but he told us that wasn't going to happen as too hard. Again I know you get what you pay for, but staff should not treat paying customers as though they have just got on cruise for free. I would never go on another P&O Jewel cruise again if you paid me. We did do a P&O cruise on the Pearl which was great. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The rest of the cruise was not enjoyable at all. Our cabin was kept clean by our two cabin attendants, but the bathroom had a terrible smell all the time the bathroom sink had a big crack in it. Food was no better then a takeaway eatery and the same thing over and over. Beef was cut on the cross which made it tough and vegetables was raw at times. One night there was roast pork and was dripping with blood. As for Entertainment, needs to improve and more of it. Most entertainment needs to be held in a bigger area as a lot could not participate due to no sitting. Maintenance was being down almost daily on deck 6, the deck was closed of and the noise was dealing from the banging and grinding. The the painting it reek. We were on a Cruises and paid our money for enjoyment not to see, hear and smell maintenance. I know smoking is frowned on so smoking was on deck 6 where the smoking area is and couldn't mix with passengers in a bar area like we did on other ships plus no chairs on deck 6. It also made it hard for older persons and assisted persons. The ship broke down at sea and was adrift for many hours. This meant we where very late into our next port and tours where cancelled another disappointment. Service was average. Prices on the ship was rather high. What is disappointing I filled in the survey for P&O and have not heard a word from them, think twice about this cruise. Read Less

All I can say is THANK GOD WE GOT OFF!! The food was terrible, it is really that blunt!! The Pantry served literally the same thing every day, day in day out. Most of it luke warm or cold. Eggs rock hard! Bread stale and brought back out again at dinner time after left to sit all through lunch. Desserts!! oh goodness don't get me started!! They all tasted exactly the same and the textures were terrible. The Waterfront Restaurant service was the lowest I've ever experienced on a cruise. We told the waiter that the HOT apple crumble was still frozen in the middle. He smiled and said....'oh yes'.... I then said again....it's stone cold! frozen even.....it is supposed to be hot.....he then just said....would you like me to take it now if you have finished. His English was perfect, he just didn't care that it was cold!! We complained to the head of catering and he just basically said that we were saying the same thing that many other people are saying and that nothing would change as P&O is the budge cruise line and the food is the base standard. We couldn't wait to get off the ship. We will NEVER cruise with P&O again!! Read Less

First time cruisers - bought this cruise on a whim at a travel expo. Middle-aged couple - I've been around (smaller) boats for a long time, my wife was new to all this. Pre-trip P&O support was excellent, embarkation very efficient. We were on-board several hours earlier than expected so explored our cabin and the ship. Nice ship and friendly crew, good on-board facilities (other than the WiFi which was virtually unusable once we were in coastal waters). We sailed away several hours late due to engine problems, according to the frequent loudspeaker announcements. My wife quite enjoyed her first 12 hours on the ship: while we were berthed and sailing thru the bay overnight. But the following morning the captain must have decided to push thru rough Southern Ocean seas to make up lost time, as the journey became quite rough (I took video of 0.5m+ waves in the on-board pools, and various decks and stairwells were roped off). Needless to say a lot of passengers and some crew were seasick. On the upside, on the 1st night I'd missed out booking at Dragon Lady restaurant, but when things got rough the reservation wait list vanished and I ended up having dinner with a fisherman (who's wife also rapidly 'excused herself' from the table). The on-board shops ran out of seasickness meds, so luckily I'd packed some for my wife. When we got to Adelaide we'd pre-booked a late disembarkation but were rushed of the ship several hours early (I guess cos they had to clean and prep the ship for the next sailaway later that day). The result: I mostly enjoyed this cruise but my wife never wants to cruise again. And I saw many other first time passengers thinking the same thing. Pity.. if P&O delayed the following sailaway by an hour maybe our cruise would have been less impacted and P&O would end up with more future cruiselings. Read Less

We were looking for a short trip to celebrate a milestone birthday where I did not have to do the catering.....booked three cabins (2 x Mini Suites [Level 11] and 1 x quad share on level 10. The mini suites were very noisy as the pool deck was directly above - chairs and tables being dragged along teak day and night. Heavy rainfall inundated the pool area and the staircases mid-cruise from the upper deck down - fans everywhere. Mini suite between ours and our daughters suffered flooding from their bathroom floor drain - they were moved, but the water inundated both the adjoining rooms - ours worse than our daughters. Nowhere for us to go, so carpet pulled up, fans running for 36 hours, unable to access room all through the next day. Windy day, so trying to find a sheltered place to sit was difficult - especially when one whole promenade was being painted with ladders and extensions for rollers everywhere. We were assured by travel agent (Cruise Guru) and P&O that they would be able to cater for three vegans (daughter, partner and almost 2 year old)....that was not the reality. They lived on carbs and missed a few meals due to naptime for bubs. They were expected to pre-order every meal and provide timing - bit hard to do with a baby that is sleep deprived. The older grandchildren (10-12-14) all had a good time. There were good selections of entertainment for all tastes and the Oasis area (18+ years and over) consisted of two levels aft on the ship that provided a quiet place to read, listen to good music, have cocktails. My only fond memory of the cruise! Bit irritating to change your clock back one hour on Wednesday morning and forward on Thursday morning - another way to miss a meal. Cabin crew did a great job in difficult circumstances. They always had a smile on their face and kept apologising for the state of our cabin - not their fault. Not sure it was worth going ashore on Moreton Island for the shore excursions - weather spoiled our jaunt, but our daughter, son and pa went ashore to the beach and had a lovely afternoon in the water (sun had come out by then). Just as well, as the 'heated pool' on board was not heated! Read Less

Had to queue up twice over 2 days to board up to 4 hours quality of food hit and miss at all locations lounge bar prices for drinks bar staff making cocktails using a 2 nip measure only filled half way average musicians and the good ones played for limited times 2 hour queue's for tender tickets then 2 hours wait for tender on every shore day Obnoxious bogans some Russian assaulting staff and other passengers in bars and at reception. shorts, caps and wife beaters in restaurants and bars at night time no wonder there were intimidating muscled up bouncers all around the ship very short stops onshore not full days over zealous sales scams on activities described as lectures most activities closed like water slide, flying fox. Fantastic and accommodating staff with the exception of some higher ranking flamboyant englishmen who appeared to consider passengers as an annoyance Great selection of cold beer Having cruised in other parts of the world for less money this cruise and what is being sold in Australia just doesn't compare. suggest if looking for a cruise try Asia or the USA and not on an Australian run ship. My wife and I decided to give P&O a try after experiencing seven other cruises. So we chose this seven days cruise from Sydney to Morton island & return. Check in was efficient however once you board the Pacific Jewel you soon realise how dated and aged the ship is. Worn carpets and furniture, broken fittings, exposed wires and in places duct tape used to cover carpet and repairs. This ship needs a major re-fit when compared to other cruise ships. Our room was clean and tidy however the Television was a dated as the ship and the channel selection poor (No local content or news). I found the the dinning experience at the Waterfront and other public eating places to be fine and what would be expected, however I did notice that a number of the staff have some difficulties speaking english and this causes frustration at times. It is very obvious that P&O is hell bent on pulling every cent they can from your pocket. NOTHING IS FREE OR COMPLIMENTARY. BE WARNED! Other cruise lines offer free pastries with your coffee 24/7, Free soft serve ice cream for the kids, pizza etc. Not P&O- YOU PAY. It might sound like a small matter but for families it all counts. The only true high light of the dinning experience was Luke Mangans SALT GRILL. At $49 per head great value, fine dinning. We had three ports on this cruise two by tender and one docked. First port was missed due to the swell? Ok that's fine, safety first. However when this happens on other cruise ships as we have experienced, you get a credit of you account which is spent on the ship and everyone is abit happier. Not on P&O. The could even announce the cancellation through out the whole ship just the hall ways which caused many guests to miss the announcement as they were still in their room. When we did finally use the tenders they are very old, had broken doors, the windows leaked and reflected the condition of the ship...OLD. Some of the guests got a little sea sick when tendered and if wasn't for the other guest no help would have been forth coming. The staff just sat there with one fellow just laughing..very poor. The entertainment was what is expected on a smaller cruise ship and fine. Our ports of call were great and we met some lovely people. I could go on but I wont. My recommendation for anyone considering this ship, whether a first time cruiser or seasoned veteran, GIVE IT A BIG MISS! there are better value for money options now so take them. The staff try hard but in this old dated ship it must be hard for them. P&O should put this ship in for a major re-fit or sell it. The longer they use it in this condition the more damage they do to their brand. Read Less

I recently (February 2017) went on a three day trial cruise from Melbourne to Sydney, l have never cruised before so l wasn't sure what to expect. I was incredibly disappointed with the whole trip, these ships, although clean, are just too old. The food was lucky to be 2 star, and that was the part l was really looking forward too. The best thing l had in the 3 days was a hot dog which l purchased on board, The breakfast was ok, u cant do too much wrong with an egg Accommodation was clean l would say 3 star. If u are someone who travels 4.5 - 5 star hotels u will be disappointed. It was the spirit of Tasmania with entertainment. All in all it was ordinary, l wouldn't do it again, if u must cruise l would travel with one of the newer big ships that really have something to offer..: Read Less

Short version - the title says it all - your paying tiger air prices expect tiger air standards Long version - Ok as long as your expectations arent too high. A lot of the "entertainment" is soft sell infomercials. (not always totally soft sell either) Everything above the very basic is extra - right down to having a hot dog, or a burger. Dont think you can have a bottle of a wine that is special to you - they charge $15 corkage - or it is seized till you queue to get it back at the end - dont worry - you get good at queues. Get to the music events etc that you want to see early - there are never enough seats or tables. Bag of chips $7.50 - no wonder they wont let you bring anything on! Be aware they will not let you join friends unless you walk in the dining room together , and you cant save spots for breakfast of lunch. If you are a bigger group you need to have someone at the booking area right at 5,30pm the previous night or you will only get 8pm sittings. Basically everything is designed to run it as tight and cheaply as possible - its how they get it so cheap, but you do feel it at times, and I found it trying that there is no flexibility in the systems. Ship tired but very clean. Staff very mixed - I saw some very rude customers (cmon people your not on the QE2 get over yourself) but I also saw and experienced some incredibly rude staff - I was told they hate the cruises with grog packages and we were directly after one so they were tired. Im sorry others were horrible - but please dont take it out on me. All up I wouldnt travel with them again - but they are what they are and will suit many. Read Less

Wanted a five day getaway and as we had sailed before with P and O thought this would be just the ticket. Also decided to book the VIP suite on deck 11. What we quickly realised is that we were directly below the out door Lido Deck and late night disco. Try spending even a short time in a room with a constant "doof doof" droning through the ceiling and when that stops the loud clutter of equipment dragged across the deck. Guantanamo would be proud. All of this for the extra cost of the bigger cabin Food is very average, The Pantry nothing better then a cheap cafeteria. We were a family of three generations wanting to spend a short break together. My husband and I have cruised mainly in Europe and North America on a number of occasions. Our adult son and 9 year old grand daughter travelled with us on this their first cruise. We chose this cruise as it was reasonably priced and departed from our home city of Melbourne for 4 days/3 nights. The ship was very tired and the food far inferior to any other cruise we had experienced before. The high level of service we have previously experienced in restaurants on cruises was lacking on this ship. The overall decor of the ship had a "worn out" look from the linen to the furnishings. However the embarkation process in Melbourne was the most efficient in comparison with other cruise lines in Southhampton, Barcelona, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Sydney, congratulations to the P and O team at the Melbourne Wharf. I boarded the Pacific Dawn on the 14th of January 2017 with 3 of my girlfriends for a relaxing get away. This cruise was 7 nights and stopped at Noumea, Lifou and Port Vila. This was my first time cruising with P&O and first time on board Pacific Dawn. The ship is tired and is in need of refurbishment which I hear is happening early 2017. We shared a quad cabin on Deck 9 which had 2 sets of bunk beds. The room was quite small, and didn't have any storage space for 4 suitcases. So we had to have them in the walk way and up on the bedside tables. The bathrooms were showing their age, and had some rust in the corners. Unfortunately the food was terrible! In the Plantain Restaurant which is a buffet the food was cold, lacking flavor and just overall wasn't great. In the Waterfront Restaurant the service there was generally good, and the food was average. We decided to dine at the specialty restaurant La Luna which is Asian style and change's from Japanese to Thai etc each night. The restaurant is located on Deck 12, we tried looking for the restaurant for about 15 minutes asking staff members where it is located, finally we were pointed in the right direction to find out that it is located inside Plantain (Buffet), they section off a part of the seating. We were a bit disappointed with this as this restaurant is not included in the price and is at extra cost. We just thought the location could have been nicer for a specialty restaurant. We dined on a Japanese night and the food was nice (this was the best food we ate on the whole cruise). We attended all 3 of the 'themed' nights which were - Back to School, Bianco/White Party and Gatsby. We enjoyed them all, however we weren't a fan of the live band. We did activities like Bingo and attended Karaoke which are all good and are pretty standard on most cruise ships these days. Compared to other cruise ships I have been on the service was not as great. The staff weren't as friendly as other cruise lines. However my main reason for writing this review was for the following. After we had been at sea 1 day I had a letter left for me in the cabin advising that my bank was declining P&O from taking money off my Visa card and they were not giving them a reason as to why, due to this P&O blocked my account so I was unable to do anything on board - buy drinks, snacks, bingo etc. I went to reception to speak with them about this and asked if I could use their phone to call home to get other credit card details as I had no reception. They let me make a call however family was not answering. I tried several hours later and same thing. I wasn't sure if their phones weren't connecting properly. After many attempts with no answer, i asked if i could pay with some cash to purchase some internet to contact home with social media. However they could not care less and advised that they are not unblocking my account to do so. I had to use one of my fiends accounts to purchase some internet and I was then able to get other credit card details. I went to reception to give these details for them to tell me that they will not accept credit card over the phone. At this point I was feeling so stressed and I was asking for other options. The man I dealt with was so rude and disrespectful to me to the point where he made me so distressed I was crying. I distressed to him that there has to be other options and to put himself into my shoes being at sea with a blocked account unable to purchase anything. In the end I spoke with someone else who was able to give me some options to get the issue resolved. I will be making a complaint about the individual. The one Shore Tour we booked was Parasailing at Port Vila, we got off the boat and was transported to the activity. We were out on the boat all suited up ready.. and the boat breaks down. We were quite disappointed however P&O did refund us our money back. Would not recommend P&O to any family or friends, and will not be cruising with them again. Read Less

I boarded the pacific dawn on the 20th of December with my 2 disabled grandparents and my two young brothers it was my first time on a P&O ship as I normally sail on the princess lines my experience was poorly the embarking and disembarking was great the assistance the cruise went to to get my grandparents on and of the ship even in the port of calls was outstanding however in saying this the meals were terrible the food was always cold, not a great deal of selection I thought it was rude how on one of the port of calls my two brothers and I had a shore tour and arrived back on the boat around about 1:30ish - 2ish my brothers and I went to get food from the plantation and were refused entry along with other people because the lunch rush was over so we missed out on lunch that day because of that the entertainment was average the singers were average Christmas Day my family had dinner in the waterfront and the food was cold, terrible and sickening also the organisation was terrible we were try all week to get in to the waterfront and were kicked back every time I wouldn't recommend this cruise line to my friends however the drink waiters were amazing as well as the reception people Read Less

We recently did the PNG xmas cruise, the ports were great( Alotau, Kiriwina, Rabual, Conflict Is & Kitava, with smaller group tours than your average cruise which was a nice change. The ship itself was somewhat of a disappointment, despite it being advertised as newly refurbished it was second rate and tired. Embarkation in Brisbane, leave a lot to be desired, with an archaic system that takes in excess of 1.5 to 2 hrs, that make you feel like no less that cattle being herded. Long waiting lines then finally herded into another waiting area to wait until your number was called. Such a poor system. The Pantry! in lieu of a buffet style what a disgrace... the concept looks great, however the execution was probably the worst I have ever seen... We travelled with my 5 year old daughter, they did offer a children's menu with limited options. This was only offered between 1645 hrs to 1715 hrs which often did not suit us, before reverting back to the same old food offered the entire cruise. When asked to provide a child friendly meal the staff often refused & then directed us to the set menu restaurant, which often meant a wait ranging between 30 mins to 1.5 hrs! Breakfast when I asked for Jam with with my daughters toast the server simply slapped it into a pile onto the plate despite my request that it be placed into small container easily that was available. I objected to such treatment stating that my daughter is not a pig nor will she be treated this way. The server began to argue before reluctantly scraping the jam into the requested container then handed us the dirty plate with the toast. This was just one of various incident I experienced in this restaurant. When approached the restaurant manager was swift to deal with my complaint, stating that there were ongoing issues with the restaurant, sorry not my problem. The staff often served child sized meals and when requested to provide an adult size portion often displayed attitude as if they were paying for it themselves! The seating arrangements were a joke with way less table than required, absolutely disgusting. The entertainment was good, but the theatre itself looked as old as the ship itself, like most of the decor throughout the ship. Read Less

I cruised on the Pacific Aria in April 2016 (Brisbane to Fraser Island) and the standard of service, quality of the food and entertainment was much better than our recent cruise on the Pacific Aria (December 2016 - Christmas cruise from Brisbane to PNG) The quality of the food in The Waterfront dinning room was very average...not fine dining as we expected. The best food on the ship was in The Pantry, but it was not a place you wanted to stay too long as it was always very crowded and the ambiance made you want to 'eat and leave' The entertainment became very boring after a few days of the same activities and the movies in the cinema were a few years old (no recent releases). The same movies were screened a few times during the cruise. The Christmas dinner was not a major disappointment. We tried the Waterfront for dinner, but left after they served meals that were bland. Turkey was processed roll meat and the Pate was like a meat loaf. We then tried to get a Christmas dinner in The Pantry where they had a cooked whole turkey 'on display' but served processed roll turkey again Overall, cannot recommend this ship (shame, it was great the first time we sailed on it)! We sailed on the Christmas cruise to Papua New Guinea in December 2016, whilst P&O say that they refurbished the ship, the best way to describe it is like a polished turd. The ship itself was tired and run down, the staff were for the most part unhelpful, rude and obviously didn't want to be there. The destination and people of the Islands were great, everything you expect the staff to be happy, vibrant and very helpful! I experienced several issues with the food service especially, to the point that I had a server arguing with me about putting jam in a container for my 5 year old daughter as opposed to just slapping it onto her plate like you would for a pig. Furthermore dinner menu for kids was only served between 1630hrs to 1700hrs when I asked for the kids menu at the same time we wanted to eat the staff again refused to assist and then began to argue, finally the manager accommodated us and fellow passengers in the same position. In every aspect we experienced staff to be so inflexible and regimented and unwilling to accommodate reasonable requests. We have been on several cruises, including P&O however this will no longer be the case for P&O; like no place on earth... will you get such crap service! Read Less

We took the cruise for a rest but our cabin (with balcony and bought early at "full" price) was badly affected by noise from the galley above - starting at 4am and finishing after 10pm. We found out that P&O were aware of the problem of noise especially with our cabin but they never warned us and were happy to take top dollar from us. To add insult to injury, we made a written complaint immediately whilst we were onboard but nobody contacted us. Then when we arrived home we logged complaints but still no reaction. The morals of P&O leave a lot to be desired and their customer service is ZERO. They are mercenary and don't care about their passengers, just the money. To knowingly sell a substandard cabin at full rate is a disgrace. Avoid P&O and ships in the Carnival Cruise Line. The food was mediocre with no fresh seafood and little fresh fruit. The entertainment was spectacular. The cabin and bathroom size particularly were good. Apart from having to deal with dramatic noise from 4am we had a good cruise but didn't get the rest we anticipated. Read Less

The South Pacific destinations are fine but for Mare. Melb depature port means lots of days [8] sailing with no stops. The Food Pantry concept was a great disappointment, at every meal the queus proved frustrating and at times meant diners felt like screaming [at people that pushed in or blocked aisles]. A lack of control of guests wanting to see what was available to eat and having to go to lines at different food stations and queu again and again to acheive their eating desires, was very annoying. The food offered was at times low quality - for example Basa fish was the main product at the fish station. Entertainment was mostly good but prior cruise experience and expectations meant that our expectations were not met, we were unimpressed. The ship itself is dated and the swimming pools/spas limited. Our Balcony Cabin was below expectations, dedicated Cabin staff were great and delivered great room service. The Pacific Jewel slugs you at every possible opportunity. Why they must promote and sell bottled water the way they do is mischevious, is their on board water not fit for consumption? At many entertainment sites such as the Atrium you could not get a seat at certain times, this was exacerbated by ignorant people who earmarked seat them for others who may or may not turn up. We did meet a number of travellers that were first time cruisers that were full of praise of the cruise and one other couple who had paid two thousand dollars less than I paid for Balcony Cabin, so they were very [understandably] happy with the value proposition. The service in free eat restaurants [Waterfront etc] was good and food a tad better but again well below prior cruise experience. The entertainment overall was OK with a couple of great shows, however again it was well short of other cruise experiences. All in all we found the value of the Pacific Jewel cruise signifcantly below our expectations and prior experience. Regrettably we could not recomend Pacific Jewel, rather we would suggest to use alternatives. Read Less

Wasn't very impressed at all. Being an ex cruise ship employee I have sailed on many ships and found this one to be best summed up in one word - tired! The interior of the ship is dated and in some parts worn and dirty. One waiter and purser were downright rude ( Restaurant supervisor on the other hand was extremely helpful but shouldn't have had to be called). The pantry food was fairly lacklustre and not one of our group of 16 was impressed. The Salt Grill was the only food that really impressed us but too expensive to dine in all the time. We bought the pre paid beverage package but found all drinks had still been charged to our accounts. I had also been charged for cocktails I hadn't ordered and had a time trying to have them removed from account. Someone had given my cabin number and a manual entry without my card had been made. There was never enough beach towels and we used bathroom towels to go on a shore excursion. Our steward was lovely but constantly apologising and saying how tired he was. The ents officers were great though and the Bianco party was a hoot! I was impressed with embarkation and disembarkation, it went smooth. I was overall disappointed as I really wanted my friends who hadn't sailed before to see how great cruising can be, but unfortunately most have said they wouldn't cruise again after their experience. My daughters mother-in-law and I needed to recharge our batteries before having to look after our grand daughters for the school holidays. The 4 night cruise was the perfect fit. The cabin was pretty good but that's about it. HATED The Pantry, I've been on 10 other cruises and in comparison the choice of food, water, juice, tea and coffee on the Aria was extremely poor. The layout of the ship is pretty silly. In order to get to reception you need to go up one floor then down the next. It doesn't have good flow. The main swimming pool area was like a sauna, there was no ventilation. Passengers had a choice if they couldn't breath because of the humidity retained in that area they could leave but I felt extremely sorry for the staff as they had to suffer under those terrible working conditions. P & O need to look at what they can do to make some of those windows open up because having the roof opened did absolutely nothing. Read Less

Chose this cruise as I was turning 70 and was looking for memorable experience to celebrate this milestone in my life. However on boarding Pacific Jewel was totally underwhelmed from the start. Without detailing problems experienced they were with dinning in Waterfront restaurant, lack of choices of desirable food in the Pantry. No towels or toilet paper in cabin when arriving at cabin, lack of interest to supply them when pointed out. Onshore tour a nightmare relating to tenders....or lack of. Lack of P&O staff was a problem and many of those there were unmotivated. Found the Pacific Jewel to be old & tired, certainly no wow factor. Have been on 6 previous cruises and had wonderful experiences on all 6, but not this one. The Salt Grill was a very pleasant experience & the entertainment director was to be complimented, she was excellent. We enjoyed the nightly shows, daily trivia quiz . Read Less
