We departed Tampa on March 11, 2012 for the week long family spring break cruise. We had a group of 49 people travelling ages 2-68. We have experienced different cruise lines and this is my second NCL cruise. Let me just say, it will be hard not to go back.
Embarkation was a breeze. Being in a suite, we were escorted to the VIP area where we were greeted by everyone and obtained our key cards. We booked an SJ Family Suite (12028) which is forward starboard side. I had my wife and 3 kids ages 5-10 and it didn't disappoint. The cabin is very spacious with a queen size bed, a pull out sleeper sofa and a comfortable Murphy bed. The bathroom has two sinks, a tub, and separate shower with a messager. The messager is great for the kids which helps them get out all of the shampoo. Our cabin steward, Armando and butler, Arni were fabulous. The ship itself was in good shape, very clean, but could use new carpet in the common areas in my opinion.
Day 1 was a sea day with rough weather. The winds and currents were playing tug of war with our ship in the middle. Not much the Capt. could do about it so we drank through it. There are activities for all ages, but my children really wanted to hang out at the pool and go down the double slides about 100 times. The afternoon buffet has plenty to offer including cold cuts, burgers, hot dogs. DON'T pass up on the pretzel rolls, they are delicious! If you don't want something by the pool, put your shirt on and head to the buffet inside. The food all week was better than average and a heck of alot better than Carnival.
