Relaxing on the Sun

Sail Date: March 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Other
We just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Sun. It was one of the most relaxing cruises we have ever done. I will review different aspects of the cruise in paragraph form.

The ship: She is the smallest ship we have sailed on but she is a beauty. She was very clean and well maintained. The decor is pleasing and relaxing to look at. Chairs in common areas were comfortable and there seemed to be plenty of them. My only complaint is that there are no fish on the carpet. If you have sailed with NCL you know that the fish on the carpet are always swimming toward the front of the ship which makes it easier to figure out where you are.

The cabin: The cabin was a standard picture window cabin. It seemed a little small but there was plenty of room for the two of us. The cabin was very clean and our cabin steward Victor was very attentive. The bathroom was cleaned twice a day as was the cabin. We always had fresh towels and ice in the ice bucket. Our bed was More very comfortable making me wonder if the mattress was new. The bathroom was on the small side but we managed. Can't say enough about Victor and his smiling friendly face.

Dining: We ate at the Four Seasons dining room mostly. It was near our cabin. We never had to wait for a table and the service was great. The choices on the menu were good and the food always arrived hot. We ate in the main dining room, Seven Seas, twice. Again, the menu was the same as Four Seasons and the service was just as good. One night we ate at Moderno. The atmosphere was very nice. The service was great as was the food. We are not big meat eaters so I don't think we got our monies worth. But if you are a big meat eater this is the place for you! The two buffets were our place of choice for breakfast every day. There was a variety of things to choose from and the fresh made omelets were really good. Entertainment: The shows on board were entertaining. We played several games of trivia with the cruise directors staff along with some karaoke. The cruise director and her staff were a lot of fun. There was plenty to do if you were looking for something. We had a nice stroll around the deck late every night before bed.

Milka set up a really nice meet and greet for those of us who are cruise critic members. Several staff members were there to visit with us and answer any questions we had.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay on the Sun. We hope to sail on her again in the future. Less

Cabin review: OE5209 Oceanview Picture Window

Cabin sleeps 3 so it seemed a little small to us. The bathroom was small and the shower was really small. It is round with a shower curtain. The room itself would have been better if there had not been a bunk bed in it.

Port and Shore Excursions

The island has been improved so much since we were there a year ago. We walked and around and did some swimming. The water is beautiful and you can tell in a couple of years when all the improvements are finished it will really be a place to spend some time.

Nassau is nice to walk around. We were there on a Sunday so there wasn't much open. We had been before so we chose just to walk around town rather than do an excursion.

We loved San Juan. We hope to go back and spend several days. Too much to see and not enough time. We took a tour that we picked up in town out to the fort and around the old and new city. Then we spent some time just walking around town checking things out. San Juan was probably our favorite spot.

Island Tour

We had places we wanted to see so we hired a guide to take us. The island is beautiful and for 2 hours they drove where we wanted to go. Then he dropped us off in town and we walked to the other sites we wanted to see. We did not get to see some things because everything closed between 2 and 4. Not sure why they close up so early. It was a Tuesday and the weather was beautiful. We wanted to eat an early dinner but could not find an open restaurant at 4:00.
