Cruise Critic Review of the Oosterdam Hawaii Trip Feb 25, 2012
First let me start with the positives. The service staff on this ship are great. The room stewards work hard to keep their assigned rooms clean and neat. The bar staff are friendly and courteous - special shout out to the Ocean Bar staff (Eddie et al). We ate all our meals in Lido and were impressed both with the service and the quality of food. The Captain was approachable, informative and friendly.
On our entry into the Hawaiian Islands, there was a pod of hump back whales that we could watch frolicking in the sea. That was really the highlight of the journey!
Our cabin was towards the rear of mid ship which was a good location given the rough seas. The room was great - especially loved the double sink washroom. Probably our biggest negative was the location of the TV - fine for viewing from the couch but definitely not able to watch it in bed comfortably.
The carpet was worn, looking dirty due to age. The patio deck furniture looked distressed but I'm not sure that wasn't deliberate. Loved the dual seating with foot stools - unfortunately due to poor weather we didn't get to use them much.
