We were booked on the CARNIVAL LEGEND EXOTIC SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN CRUISE ON FEBRUARY 23, 2005. We had started a small but rowdy group on the Cruise Critic boards and were all looking forward to meeting each other on the ship. We arrived to find a HUGE LINE waiting for entrance into the Cruise Terminal at the Port Everglades site. This was the WORST EXPERIENCE that I have ever had when boarding a ship. Thank God it was a nice day outside as we waited at least an hour and a half to go through the line, get our room keys and have our pictures taken. Carnival really needs to get their stuff together when it comes to embarkation at Port Everglades.

We were booked in an inside cabin, on the 5th deck. The room was adequate with plenty of storage/closet space. The bathroom was a good size but the room colors clash with a mix of orange and dark blue! We were surprised to find a complimentary bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries from our Sky Auction Travel Agent so we send Kudos to them for their kind gifts. We had also pre ordered drink and soft drink tickets which are offered from Carnival and I would highly recommend them. Be warned though...the crew is very inconsistent when it comes to drink pricing on different bars on the ship. You may be charged different prices for the same drink throughout the ship.

After lunch on the Lido Deck we finally met up with some of our cruise critic friends and found out that it was going to be a great week together. After the beloved Muster Drill we began to look around the ship. I found the ship decor to be gaudy, a cross between Greek Mythology and Cheesy Las Vegas! It was very clean though and well taken care of. Our room steward never introduced himself to us and never really saw him do anything more than was expected of him. Or first night in the dining room was a bit disappointing. The food was good but the service needed much improvement. Our waiter was not very friendly and assistant waiter couldn't even get us any bread or water. The next day we immediately had the automatic gratituities taken off our bill and we noticed an immediate change in the attitude of the dining room staff. The waiter remembered my wife's love of cheese and seafood. The food overall was good but they really need to improve their dessert offerings.
