You will be stunned!

Sail Date: January 2012
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
My hubby and I were the young ones on this ship. We figure the seniors have ironed out all the bumps so that is why we took this cruise line. Yes, there were children on the ship but they were well behaved. This is was a smooth cruise due to this.
They have an evening of desserts. Those little ones were at awe wondering which areas to hit.
This boat has cabanas at the top lido. They have the library and computer classes packed with people. You knew you were not on the party boat. More the academia crowd when you see photo, arts and classes and tech classes offered.
Great current movies in the theater with individual leather chairs. Free popcorn too.
Tamarind is all about services. Great food there.

Formal nights were wonderful. It brings back the days when elegance was around on the boats.

HA wants to please. They even have HA bags for their clients to use when they go ashore. They have a cold lemonade (free) for their clients when they More return from an excursion. HA goes out of the way to make it a vacation and for you to relax and enjoy the ride. Love them! The dining room was average in service. Our waiter was nothing like our Carnival or Princess waiter who was always there smiling. They work hard in bringing the food and clearing it. They need personality waiters as well. On NCL, there is a guy who will give you butter mints . He's the same guy who reminds you to clean your hands. No one is on the Nieuw Amsterdam some nights.

The dining room food was great and in small portions. Some are salty. You may have to remind them not to add salt your food if you don't like salty food.

The entertainment was great on the last night. The four male tenors were fabulous. They remind me of the Il Divos. Do not select the second dining. You will miss some of the entertainment with one showings.

Their ice cream variety at the lido deck eatery went downhill. They used to have a variety. They have only chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.

So sad to see them do away with the traditional Dutch hats night. They did not have it on this cruise.
On the last night, every one whips around their napkins in the air and the cooks come out in a parade in the dining room. Lots of fun. Less

Cabin review: VF4042 Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

We always demand for a cabin near an escalator on HAL. No noise. Quiet. Easy excess to other areas via escalator. Midship. Fourth level with a verandah and bathtub.

Port and Shore Excursions

They changed the stop from Coszumel to Costa Maya. Not happy with the change. Costa Maya is a shopping center. Nothing else. Nothing very exciting so we did not sign up for the excursions. The shopping center was a disappointment. We walked to the second center behind the BIG shopping center. If you want silver, this was the place to purchase it.

Island Tour

An excursion to a rum factory, to a beach, and Hell. The rum cakes can be purchased elsewhere for 20-50 cents more. Nothing fabulous. You don't see them making it. It was a selling spot. Hell was a selling point too. They will not allow enough time for you to find post card and write it. Not enough time. The clerk there dressed as a devil was rude too. Only thing good about that was seeing the earth formations behind the place. The guide gave wonderful facts about the flora and fauna in the area. Every stop was just too short.

Half Moon Cay We rented a clam shell. There were tons of unused chairs and shells. No one even took our tickets. I guess the workers did not care. This water was gorgeously blue turquoise. The food was awful on the island. Burnt hamburgers and cold. We went back to the boat and ate at the Lido.

Mahogny Bay, Honduras/Roatan West Side Island Tour This is a wonderful tour to a Roatan historic center, butterfly farm, and a rain forest. We were able to have snack and lemonade at the historic center where you get a short story about the history of the people in the area. The natives demonstrate the dress and the dance. Nice. Give a tip. Meanwhile, there are natives selling their handmade art wares in a small outdoor market there. Nice. Next stop, the butterfly farm. You will see the animals of the area in a shelter. There were animals I have never seen before. Kids will love this. The toucans and parakeets will land on your fingers. Beautiful birds. Last, you will view the rain forest. It is not rocky, but you gotta be able to walk on slippery rocks and cross bridges. No wheel chairs on this one. It will rain but the trees will protect you. Beautiful flowers and plants. Just too gorgeous. You will see banana trees, cinnamon trees, coffee trees, etc. The guide will tell you the stories about each plants. At the end, you will be eating fruits from the forest. Yummy! Pineapple was just too delicious. Mangos, cantaloupes, watermelons, etc. were so refreshing on a rainy day. If you can't stand humidity, then you should not go on this trip. Very humid and you will go wet! Best excursion trip!
