Carnival Sensation 12/11/11

Sail Date: December 2011
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Port Canaveral (Orlando)
I just got home from a 4 day Carnival Sensation Cruise to the Bahamas..Port of calls where Freeport and Nassau

Onboard with me was my DW Juli and my DS Michael

My Son is in the Air Force and Stationed at Patrick AFB which is located in Coco Beach about 10 miles from Port Canaveral We wanted to Visit Him but also wanted to have something to was a Cruise or go play in Orlando.... so we decided on a cruise...Michael has never been on a cruise it was his First, our 6th...5 with carnival I was looking forward to seeing his first time on a Ship

We landed three days prior and stayed at the Days Inn in Satellite Beach it was priced the best for the area we wanted to stay (my son lived in Melbourne at the time) ....I booked this room 6 months Son Moved to Merritt Island ....because I payed for a Internet special ...I had to pay in full in Advance....( the fine print i did not read) so i paid in full when i booked ....I called and they did a well sorry More no cancellations...So I stayed Son lived about 40 minutes from there...

I rented a Car from Hertz they have a location right by Port Canaveral and offer a shuttle to the Pier after drop off.. it was $56 for two days

We Visited Kennedy Space Center ....go see it ....A must if you have time....It Rained on Saturday we were going to drive to Miami along the Coast but i did not want to do that in the Rain so we Hung out at my sons house...he lives on a fingerling of the Banana River and you can Fish from his backyard so that's what we did....I caught a huge Channel Bass..

We got on the Ship without any Issues there was a pretty long Line to Embark but we asked for wheelchair assist for Juli which put us through the VIP line...the longest wait for for security which we still had to wait for.... they made us carry our sodas on they checked them and water bottles really well ...i told them we had 2 bottles of wine in the bag they just shrugged...did not even look at it....the lines to get on board was fast...we had a guy from line to lobby he took care of getting us onboard our passes room keys etc....his name was Nelson...I saw him the first night on the cruise...they get 2 cruises a year on standby and they had one cabin left for this cruise so he called his wife and Jumped on....

We got on about 1:30 so our Cabin was ready we went straight there and dropped off our carry ons then to the Lido for Lunch ...a very good lunch everything was fresh and hot....then back to the room to wait for luggage and get ready for the Muster was by far the longest Muster I have had it started at 3:30 and ended at 4:10... the worst part was i did not have a drink with me....
After Muster I walked my Kid around to show off the ship...even though this was my first time on the Sensation I have been on the Elation twice so i knew the layout pretty well...the Color decor on the Ship is Purple which was shocking when i first walked on but after a day or so i did not even notice it...after the quick walk around we got ready for Dinner

We Had Any Time Dining this time...Not sure if i liked that option....We still ate about 6:00 to 6:30 every night, I think in the future we will keep the traditional time....We had two different wait teams they were both great....The food was pretty good except one night I would rate that night a 6 i would rate the rest a 9 ....every other meal we had in the Lido was very good..(rated a 8) great Sandwiches ( rated a 9) the Burgers were good ( rated a 7)...overall the best food I have had on a Ship...And the service in all options were a solid 9

Our Cabins were M176 and M172 OV Cabins on the Main Deck not much to really mention if you have stayed in a OV cabin ...they are pretty much the same...
It was our first time in a OV it was more roomier then i thought it would was for sure bigger then the IS cabin we had before...
Our Cabin Stewart did a great Job as only complaint is I had to ask for Ice twice a day everyday.....In the Past I asked once and never had to ask again....

We Did the normal things onboard went to the Shows etc... The Cruise Director even though on a different Ship did the Same bits and jokes even the newlywed not so newlywed games had the same when I watched the shows I only did it for my Son who was on his First Cruise...The Welcome Aboard Show is the Same as usual they had a 80's tribute show which was pretty good ...the Guy singer was horrible but the Girl Singer was pretty Good ...and the Dance Crew was good as well Overall i enjoyed it. We played a few rounds of Golf... did the comedy shows a few nights...they were pretty funny ...

On the First Night Juli lost her walking cane she thought she left it on the Lido during the Muster...we went to the Pursers desk and asked about the lost and found...they showed a real concern...they let Juli borrow a Cane from them and kept in contact with us during the cruise they even sent us a letter in case we needed to file a claim....when i went to pack the final night i found it under the bed....they seemed more relieved as us...another good experience from them...

Our first Port was Freeport, We got off the Ship about 10am waited in a long confusing Line to take a Van to Port Lucaya once there we just walked around and looked at the same crap you see at any Port...just a different name on it...Juli did not last to long walking so she went back to the and the Kid had lunch and rented scooters....not much else to do around there...

Nassau we walked off about 10am as well just me and Michael we walked through the straw market did the pirate museum, checked out the fire area etc...we went back had lunch Juli was not feeling that well so we went back out without her...we rented a Limo for a City Your just to two of was $100 with tip but it was nice to spurge a bit ...we went to Atlantis drove around the town went to the Queens Staircase and Fort Fincastle Drove by the Slums...The Guy did a pretty good job of showing off Nassau...and we had a good time...

Last day we had a Sea Day and did the behind the Fun Tour. the HR department gives the tour it is a 2.5 hour tour of behind the scenes they took us to the Galley, downstairs to the crew area and storage areas... the environmental stuff we met the chief engineer for the engine control room...and we met the Captain on the Bridge....

I have done this tour on the Spirit last year (4 hours and much more stuff)but i wanted to take Micheal on this because he was asking me a lot of i figured it would be perfect way to finish the cruise with him...overall this one was pretty.....well not was rushed we did not get a lot of questions we were just pushed along....the Captain had a wedding at 12.....when we did get to the Captain it was come on lets take pictures...we asked a few questions and he was gone....we hung out on the bridge for a bit...but well....who cares what the HR guy tells us about the bridge....His Name is Dan and he did a great job and was very knowledgeable but...I even talked to him afterwords told him what i though ...he apologized and agreed it was a bit rushed....but he had a time line he had to keep....

Overall I give the Cruise a 8.5 everything i expected and more from Carnival..... the few things that dropped the score was they did charge me $10 each time for our corkage fee for our wine...the first time they have done that ....I know they say it but in the past they never this time i did not bring a cork screw..the Ice from my Cabin Stewart...and when i called Room service for Ice they seemed like I was a Pain in the butt for asking...also being rushed on the Behind the Fun tour..

But I still loved the Cruised and I loved Watching my Son Enjoying the service and the food. That was my bonus........ Less
