It's hard to write an unbiased review of a cruise on Celebrity since it is our favorite line, but there are a few things from our recent cruise that are causing us to worry about that favored status. As a bit of background, my wife and I are both 48, we have no children and this was our 24th cruise.
EMBARKATION: We sailed out of San Juan, and for the most part had no problems getting right on board. We arrived at the terminal around noon and had to wait in line outside the terminal for them to open. I can't fault them for that since noon is kind of early, though we've boarded ships as early as 11:20 am in the past.
PUBLIC ROOMS: A lot has been said about the condition of the Celebrity Summit. Though Celebrity always gets high marks from us on the cleanliness of their ships, the Summit looks to be a tired girl. The public places did show wear and tear in lots of places. One place that we actually avoided was the Rendezvous Lounge. It had a kind of "funk" in the air, probably due to the popularity of the lounge for Latin dancers. Let's face it, after dancing, you sit down in your seat, and the cloth seats have soaked up their fair share of sweat over the years. Now, it's a bit funky in there. The seats in the theater were also quite "sat in," if you get my drift. Since she will be entering dry dock in two months, hopefully they will turn out a squeaky clean ship when completed.
Too close to the crew quarters where it was obvious that they can smoke.
