Celebrity Silhouette Cruise Review by finsup01
- Sail Date: November 2011
- Destination: Southern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Deluxe Veranda
EMBARKATION/DEBARKATION -- We arrived by car shortly before 11:00AM and we began touring the ship by 11:30AM! The process could not have run more smoothly. At debarkation we were instructed to go to the theater at 0815. Our number was called approximately 0830 and we were off the ship and through customs by 0900. (Hint-- we avoided the crowds by using the stairs instead of the elevators. We heard others saying it was a nightmare getting off the ship, but we had no problem).
THE SHIP (Public areas) -- The Silhouette is beautiful! Everything is clean, fresh and still smells new. The public areas are well decorated, easily accessible and other than the pool area, we never felt over crowded. There is a venue for everyone's interests. The alcoves on the lawn appeared to be a waste of valuable space. We only saw one being used on one day of the cruise and everyone we spoke to stated they thought the price to use them ($149pp, per day) was ridiculous. It appeared to us that most people were reluctant to even walk on the grass. Celebrity would be wise to remove the grass and replace it with beach sand. They could put in some beach chairs, lower the cost of the alcoves and they would end up with a fun area where people would spend time and money all day. (Just saying).
Dinning areas -- The main dining room and all of the other dining areas are beautiful. The Ocean View Cafe was somewhat crowded at times, but we always managed to find a table for four.
Staterooms-- We had a Class 2A stateroom. The room, bathroom, and veranda were large enough for my wife and I to live comfortably for 12 days, but storage in the stateroom itself was a problem. The closet is smaller than those on other Celebrity Ships we have been on and the dressing table's three drawers were quickly filled with my wife's "stuff." There are two cabinets over the bed that will hold a lot, but are only accessible by people at least six feet tall or by standing on the bed. The bathroom was very nice and had plenty of storage space. The veranda was very comfortable for two people and the divider between our cabin and the couple we were traveling with could be opened up which was very convenient.
FOOD -- The food in the main dinning room was consistently very good to excellent. The food always tasted fresh and there were ample choices each night as well as the items such as shrimp cocktail, steak and apple pie with ice cream that are available every night. None of the four people in our group had any complaints about the food in the Ocean View Cafe or the Poolside Grill and we would rate the food there consistently very good during all times of day. We heard other guests complaining that the food selection in the Ocean View did not change much, but we felt there was so much offered to choose from that we could have had something different everyday even if they never changed any of the items.
SERVICE/CREW -- We have always been impressed with Celebrity's service and we were not disappointed one bit with this cruise. Everyone, from the cabin stewards to the waiters, bar tenders, guest services personnel and restroom attendants went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and attended to any problem we may have encountered. The Captain was the most visible, approachable and informative of any we have met on Celebrity. He made certain during times of rough weather that we were informed as to what was going on, what to expect, what he was doing to address the situation and how long it would take to get to calmer seas. Well done Captain Pagonis!
ENTERTAINMENT -- Those wishing to see a Broadway show, The Rat Pack in concert or Johnny Carson's monologue will be disappointed. However, those wishing to add to a great vacation by catching some extremely entertaining professionals FOR FREE will enjoy the shows. We saw two excellent comedians, a great musical impersonator and a fantastic xylophone player in addition to the Celebrity band with singers and dancers and all of the other singers and bands available throughout the ship. Celebrity has stepped it up from several years ago. If you can't find some entertainment to your liking someplace on the ship I feel sorry for you.
SHORE EXCURSIONS -- We had one very good, one great, one not so great and one awful experience. The very good was the Sail and Snorkel to Christmas and Honeymoon Coves in St. Thomas, the great was the Fan-ta-Sea in St. Kitts, the not so great was the Breathtaking Soufriere and Enchanting Falls in St. Lucia, and the awful was the Bird Island Catamaran Beach Cruise in Antigua. That trip was awful because the operators are courting disaster with this outing. It was a snorkeling excursion where the operators offered no instructions, made no head count of people in the water; expected "seasoned citizens" to swim approximately a third of a mile against a strong current in unknown waters through a coral reef! When we pointed out that one of our members was missing they only decided to check on his whereabouts after some persuasive conversation from a number of participants. The crew put no efforts into anything they did throughout the day until they asked for tips. Avoid this tour!
OVERALL -- Great ship, great crew and great time.
