Oceana - first time

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Southampton
this was our first time on oceana, was slightly worried having read reviews about how tired and grubby it was but we didnt think that was fair. this is a older ship so it will appear more worn than the newer larger ships but everywhere was very clean, crew couldnt have been more friendly or helpful in particular our cabin steward dev
food was a good standard with plenty of choice, the buffet was busy at times, but we always found a seat, went in le jardin for breakfast/lunch and dinner once, limited choice but very nice, couldnt get booked in here more than once for dinner as fully booked for whole cruise, maybe needs more tables. horizons grill very good value and good standard, same problem here tho with getting booked.
As we had been put on a table for eight even tho we requested a table for two we didnt use the adriatic for dinner but had lunch and breakfast in there, again no complaints, but we were told they only have 7 tables for 2, which is definitely not enough, we More spoke to a few people who felt the same.
All the bars were fine, we liked yacht and compass and magnums the best, service prompt but not pushy.
entertainment was a let down, same old bands/singers in bars, very poor productions in footlights, repeated more then one night, interesting talk on serial killers one day but other than that some of the worst acts we have seen on a cruise ship, and theatre very dated uncomfortable seating to hot and to small port calls were all very good, only did two trips with PO as trips over priced, bit chaotic the way they had everyone queuing down stairs and around corners for coaches only to have other people walk straight thru, ignore crews directions and get straight on coaches, very annoying
cabin was very small compared to other ones we have had but clean, balcony fine, shower room tiny, you have to stand in shower cubicle to dry yourself, dont know how big people would manage in there, toilets kept packing up, but they were prompt to fix problems, telly tiny and not flat screen, very limited choice of channels, repeated again and again all day every day, some decent films, but again they show them repeatedly, this definitely needs upgrading. especially when you have days at sea like we did[3 in a row] and want some quiet time away from people
overall this was a nice cruise with a good itinerary, ship ok but wouldnt sail on it again Less
