First Time Was A Charm

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami
We sailed the Valor on 10-2-2011 headed for a beautiful Western Caribbean itinerary. We arrived in Miami two days prior and stayed at a very clean, nice art deco hotel (Hotel 18, the name because it is on 18th Street) in Miami Beach. The hotel was a fantastic start to a great vacation. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and we enjoyed our stay so much we arranged for a room again on our return for another night.

Since this was our first cruise we started out slow by taking a interior stateroom catagory 4B. The bed was a king and extremely comfortable sleeping. The interior cabin was nice and dark and I enjoyed that. We were located port side aft. We were on Deck 2 (Main) and found it very quiet. The only complaint I could find during the entire cruise was most everyday around 2:00-3:00pm we could smell fumes that smelled like varnish or paint thinner. As soon as I complained they sent someone down to investigate and sure enough they could smell it More also, so they send someone to the room to "freshen" it up. We came back in about an hour and they had an Ozone Generator in the room and it indeed had removed the smell and we never smelled it again.

Embarkation wasn't bad, we probably completed it in less than a half hour. We carried a 12 pack of Pepsi on board and they opened it to search it.

The food was very good in the dining room. We also ate in the steakhouse one night and we really enjoyed that. The food on the Lido deck was pretty good and you can serve yourself so that was really nice. Less

Quite room with very good service. The bed was comfortable. We loved this interior room.

Port and Shore Excursions

The next port was Belize. We didn't plan an excursion in Belize so we started walking out into the unguarded part of town so the peddlers started going crazy on us. Hard to walk so we ended up walking back to port to get away from them. The we stopped at "The Wet Lizard" to have a cold one and had a nice time there.

The last port was Cozumel and this was the most beautiful island and beaches. We got to drive custom made dune buggy's that had ice chests full of beer, water and soda. The guide made us lunch of grilled chicken, tortillas, rice, guacamole, and chips. It was so good. We got to snorkel with equipment provided and we also got to a tour of a tequileria. We had a great time.

Our first port was George Town, Grand Cayman. We got a lovely excursion online to swim with the Stingrays on a Catamaran. The owner/operators name was Chip and it was the best excursion and I highly recommend it.

The second port was Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras and we had a nice excursion there which was a private cultural tour. We drove around with a local guide that answered any question we may have, and took us to some really nice places to shop.
