This was my 21 cruise, 5th time in Alaska and 2nd time on the Radiance of the Seas. We have left from Seattle, Vancouver, Whittier and Seward. We have visited most of the ports and taken a land tour into Denali and McKinley. We have cruised with Princess 4 times and 1 time with Royal Caribbean.
The Radiance is a beautiful ship and I was really looking forward to this trip. Our flight to Anchorage was nice and on time and our stay at the Marriott downtown was quite nice. In fact the Marriott had some of the best food we had on this trip. We took the Alaska Railroad to Seward. The trip was quite nice and the scenery is beautiful. The only downside was we went directly from the train to the ship and dinner arriving at 6PM. We did not get to our room until 8PM, so we did not have time to see Seward.
I was hoping I could rate this trip higher then 3 stars, but in retrospect, I couldn't. We returned on August 19th. The food on this ship was by far the worst we have experienced on 21 cruises. The first night 4 out of 6 people had to send there prime rib back because it looked so bad. This continued every night with any meat. The fish was good. We ate in Chops the 2nd night and my husband got an upset stomach 20 minutes after dinner. Chops was pretty empty both times we ate there. We felt the entertainment was also lacking. Our bathtub also leaked every day.
Room 1060 is a Grand Suite located mid ship. We had a larger balcony than most and would have really enjoyed it but for the weather. We loved the location. There was an owners suite to our left and no other room to the right. We were near the stairs and elevators, but did not hear noise from either,
