Virgin cruise experiance on the Azura

Sail Date: April 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Southampton
Travelling down to Southampton on the Friday morning , we were rather excited and nervous , not being seasoned travellers, and we were wondering what was going to happen and what we would experience over the next 14 days ? .

On arrival at 11.30am we drove straight to the drop off point , a chap unloaded the cases as soon as the car stopped . A representative of the car parking company took the keys and off we went. A painless and quick start to the holiday . WOW, we were impressed .

Checking in was seamless , with a photo being taken for the cruise card , bank details given and then to the lounge for about 30 Min's .

Customer service given was great and all our expectations were exceeded . On the ship about 12.30 and directed and guided to the Venezia on deck 15 , for a buffet lunch .

Cabin B258 had a balcony and was clean , spacious enough and functional . Milandra was the cabin steward and she was both helpful and friendly . The balcony was More not overlooked from above and had two sun chairs , one footstool and small table that doubled up as another footstool .

Food on the ship was to a good standard , we went freedom dining and it worked for us . We did not have to wait on any night , always had space in the Meridian restaurant On a couple of nights we opted for the themed evenings in the Venezia buffet restaurant and again had no issues at all . Always found a table and service was always good . We found the staff helpful , polite and courteous at all times .

Entertainment provided was varied to meet the diverse passenger tastes and needs . If you wanted a piano recital or pub quiz you were catered for .

My only gripe was that you could not walk round the whole ship from the prom deck , deck 7 and had to cut across the ship at the front by the Playhouse theatre entrance.

Overall our expectations were met and exceeded , and we have booked again on the Ventura going out Saturday 20th August round the Western med again . Less

Cabin review: JEB258 Balcony Stateroom

Balcony stateroom on starboard side towards front , quite location , no noise , shower powerful and good to use . Lots of hanging space for clothes . Ample power points , fridge , table and desk , come dressing table . Laundry just down the corridor . Great value for money

Coach from the ships dock , about 10 mins . Barcelona was superb , only wish we had more time . So much to see and do

Cannes , off the ship into a tender that was rather choppy and not for feint hearted . Walked the length of the promenade to the Palm Beach casino in the rain . A lot of expensive, yachts , restaurants and designer shops to peruse .

Coach trip from the Azura , guide was excellent and so was the city . Walking and people watching in the Piazzas . So much culture in one place , a must too visit again . Great leather goods

Cloudy , wet and stayed on ship. Could see Morrisons supermarket from ship . Rock covered in cloud

Coach trip from the ship, worth the one and a half hours on the coach . An amazing day and went back to ship worn out

Cadiz - While the Old City's street plan consists of narrow winding alleys connecting large plazas, newer areas of Cádiz typically have wide avenues and more modern buildings. In addition, the city is dotted by numerous parks where exotic plants flourish, including giant trees supposedly brought to Spain by Columbus from the New World. Found it interesting to walk round in about 3 hours
