Cabin AX

The Viking Surkow, as well as Viking's other riverboats, has gone through substantial refurbishment which has produced a beautiful, new-appearing ship. Our category A deluxe cabin was EXCELLENT, quite comparable to a Princess ocean view cabin.

Although advertised as a possible twin bed configuration, this transition was not exactly convenient, requiring one bed to be up against the outside wall and against the drapes. The reading light - permanently attached to the headboard ( obviously designed for a single full size bed) - was almost directly above my pillow. However, the beds were VERY COMFORTABLE!

There is a serious sound-proofing problem but NOT due to sounds coming THROUGH the walls; the sounds from adjoining cabins come OVER the wall through the false tile ceilings, common throughout the ship.

I also thought that the two stairways were VERY steep, with narrow risers and the vertical distance between steps greater than is comfortably climbed.

Fortunately there has been added a nice, roomy, modern elevator servicing the 4 decks.

Finally, the large "picture windows" do in fact open, but are lowered from the top downward - only about halfway down. We didn't open them very much.
