My retired parents, myself and a family friend took this 14 day Caribbean Collection cruise on the Grand Princess. It was to be an awesome trip: 9 islands in 14 days! Although they had told us after we booked that the Grand Princess was going into drydock immediately following our departure from the ship, I was not aware of the implications of what this meant. I will never again go on a ship that is going into dry dock. Construction was non-stop the whole duration of our cruise. For the first 4 days of our trip, our balcony had a sign that said "wet varnish" and the railing stayed tacky for about 5 days. There were just so many inconvient things on this ship, since it was under renovation. Workers began dismantling the Grand Princess during our cruise, and every day we heard the buzz of power tools and work in progress, in addition, railings would disappear (and caution tape would be put up), areas would be blocked off from passengers, etc. Never ever again will I go on a ship before dry dock. It was not up to the standards that I had expected from Princess, and since I was assisting my elderly parents around, it was doubly difficult as you were not sure what areas/locations would be under construction and what ship items (such as railings!) would just disappear. I did complain to Princess and they offered us some credit towards a future sailing, which I appreciated. It was not right that our 14 day cruise should have been any less than any of the other cruises that came before us-- and it definitely was.
