This is about the 18th time that I have been to Bermuda, mostly with a Celebrity Cruise ship, and it is just as lovely as ever. I can't say that it is as safe or as clean as it used to be, but it is still a wonderful destination - so much better than travelling to the Caribbean. And Celebrity is still my favorite cruise line - especially for this Bermuda trip. The Summit is starting to show its age a little, but it is still a grand ship and I hope it stays around for awhile. We had the Family Veranda Room which was fabulous. We were only 3 people, but you can easily fit 4 or more in this room. The veranda is huge - it has 4 lounge chairs, 2 tables, 2 regular chairs and still plenty of room to spare. The inside has a separate bedroom and living room and we even had our own private hallway area. I have also cruised on this ship in the regular oceanview room and the regular veranda room - all are great. It really does not matter, as we are only in the room to sleep anyway. The staff on this ship was fabulous and the meals ranged from excellent to very good. No complaints at all. The trivia games were a riot and our host, Manuel, was charmingly funny. All the entertainment was great - there were bands, singers, violin players, kareoke, etc. - something for everyone. But the best program of all was the "Dancing With the Stripes". Guests and staff (officers) sign up for a dance contest patterned after the TV show. It was in the Revelations Lounge, which is huge, and it was packed to the gills. Even the Captain shows up for this one. Of all the many cruises I have taken over the last 20 years, I have never seen anything so funny - I thought my sides would split from laughing. This is not to be missed! Well done Celebrity! Now a word about our excursions. I always like to book our land excursions ahead of time with Celebrity. The tickets are in your room and any problems that might arise can be taken care of at Guest Relations. One of our party got sick and had to cancel 2 trips without any problems. We booked the Pirate Sunset Cruise, The Trolley Train Ride, and a Catamaran Snorkel Cruise - all were great and well worth it. Now a word of warning about the one excursion we took outside of Celebrity. We booked an hour of jet skiing through KS Watersports which is located right in the harbor near the ship. I loved jet skiing, but I will never book with them again. First of all you have to get on the jet ski and they push you into the harbor. This part is okay and not a problem. But when you come back, you have to get off the floating jet ski and step onto a floating dock that is slippery and ridged - not easy to do for many of us. In fact, one of us fell into the harbor which was not easy to get out of as there are no steps anywhere. Helping her get out of the harbor was done grudgingly and without any sympathy or concern. The blond guy that works there is rude, prickly, and impatient with novices like us. The guide was a hot shot that drove so fast he left us in the "dust" in the middle of the ocean. The water was choppy that day which made it even more treacherous at high speeds. For $145.00 per person for one hour, I thought they could have handled this with a little more professionalism and some regard for all the beginners. Poorly done for sure. Nonetheless, I can't wait to go jet skiing again (so much fun) - just not with them. I think I see why Celebrity Cruises does not have them on their excursion itinerary anymore. Great ship, great cruise line, and great destination! Can't wait to go back again.
